Just went through a lot of cr*p diagnosing a surge/stumble/no code problem. reman VP was installed when old one died at 150K+. Replaced all the sensors at the same time, seemed reasonable that if the VP was shot, APPS, IAT and MAP were not far behind. 2000 miles later truck began stumbling cold and surging at 1800-1900 rpm, fuel mileage went down drastically according to the computer,(21 to 14) but hand calc. it remained the same. I cleaned connections, added grounds to the ECM and PCM I finally started putting the old sensors back in, the old APPS fixed the problem. Verified it by switching back to the new one. Lesson here was. . keep your old parts, they may be better that what you replace them with.

Jim,

Was that an OEM APPS?

If so, I'd be pretty upset! Those babies are horribly expensive.

Have you thought about trying an APPS from Williams Controls?

YUP - absolutely! ;)

Lots of guys, for "piece of mind", will automatically swap out the perfectly functioning CPS on a VP-44 truck when changing out a VP-44, because it's nearly impossible to change one with the VP-44 in place.

BUT, I have found, as you did, that if a part is working properly, it's usually a good idea to leave it alone, lest you find as you did, the NEW part is bad right out of the box, and THEN the switch back to the original or another new one, is a bear!

Thought I had a bad MAP sensor, bought a "good" used one, then a low cost new one, just in case. Turns out, the MAP codes I'd been getting, were apparently caused by poor connections to the Edge Comp I also had installed - cleaned up the connections, and ALL my "bad" MAP sensors seem to now work just fine, about $80 later and poorer!:-laf

Jim,

If you bought the "new" APPS from Dodge and it is less than 12 months old they will warranty it if you have the receipt.

Godspeed,

Trent

Nope. . The dealer stated that company policy is "no return on any electronics installed by the customer". . I did see that posted in the parts department as well.

Gave it to a friend with a 2000 with a bad apps and it works perfect for him. .

Jim,

That's too bad your dealer won't honor the Chrysler warranty. Guess I consider myself blessed that my dealer exchanged mine without even testing the part. At least your buddy is getting use out of it.

Godspeed,
Trent
