Are BFG Muds too loud?

Hey guys,



I'm in a bind... one tire is loosing air slowly and i need a new set of tires. I want a 35 inch tire but the BFG AT's are on national backorder till OCT 1st... I was thinking about going to a mud terrian instead but im worried it will only last a few thousand miles and be way too loud. What are you experiances with these tires... let me know



otherwise i guess im stuck going with a 33inch for now in AT...

I would'nt tow anything with the mud-terrains, but they are not that loud going down the road.

As long as it doesnt make the truck too much louder or i can hear them over the 12 valver... haha



i might be towing a drag car and trailer, hauling a quad. . thats it

I had BFG M/T's a few Phords ago.

Probably the best mud tire in terms of noise. Not very much noise at all.

I got about 40,000 miles out of them.

I'm not sure about towing, I didn't tow very much with that rig. (if at all)

The reason I said I would'nt tow with them is that a friend of mine lost one on 101 towing his boat. (7000lbs) I don't know why it let go but he switched to all-terrains.

I would not hesitate at all when it comes to purchasing the BFG MT's, they are a great tire. They look like they would be noisy on the road, but they are not. I am not sure how they do it, but they are very nice to have and do not have the problems associated with most high traction tires. Also, I tow a large 16,000lb trailer with them and have never had a problem, my pin weight is right at 3800lbs. I currently have two trucks and they both wear BFG mt's, they wear great. I do take the time to rotate and check air pressure often, and I can see no reason why I will not get 50K miles out of this set of tires. I do not get into much mud, but I do know they are awesome in the snow.

Ive used both the BFG M/T & A/T for many years. The Muds are louder,wear a little faster. They are a great tire for offroading. The A/T are smoother ridding & less noise. Another big plus is substantially less tendency to hydroplane. As far as failures, thats a risk with any tire manufacter or anything mechanical for that matter. With the prices of the H2 takeoffs lately get both!

I've had bfg mud terrains (255/85r16) on for 4000 miles now. They are a great tire. The only time you hear them is if you're coasting slowly with the windows open. And even then they are barely audible. Mud traction is phenominal. Wet and dry pavement is great(despite lack of siping). Sand is OK. This is probably the only terrain where ATs(I've had two sets previous to the MTs) are better than MTs. Traction on dirt or grass with the MTs are also superior to the ATs. Have'nt tries them in snow yet.

I have had two sets of BFG M/T tire. They are by far the best all around tire I could find. I have A '98 12 valve, 4x4, long bed, long cab truck.



1. original goodyears: Wore out in 13,000 miles.

2. super swamper thornburghs: 15,000 miles. Extremely unsafe on wet pavement, Sounded like I was being followed by a hellicopter, Flatspotted very bad (ate up steering box), Excellent mud traction.

3. Ground Hawgs: Good tire. little flatspotting, got 25,000 miles, bias-ply coreds broke w/ 1/4+ tread left. Good on pavement. Excellent offroad.

4. BFG M/T: 40,000+ miles. Excellent wet weather tire. Very good mud/sand tire. almost silent. RF belt broke w/ low tread(my fault) doing 90+ mph on florida's alligator alley. The tire held together for another (slower) 70 miles to my destination.

5. 40,000 and still going. I would/do trust my life with them.
