in addition to all the conversation regarding taxes and social programs is the issue of our soverign right as a republic to govern ourselves. personally the biggest problem in my view is our being sucked into the one world government idea as promoted by our involvement with the united nations. if you want scary delve into the various socialistic and communistic ideas espoused by the un's various programs. we give a good bit of cash to the very countries that hate our way of life!!!!!!!!!! if you have kids or grandkids just trust the un and their village concept will surely do the right thing. if you are interested in a different approach check out this site: www.jbs.org the jbs stands for the john birch society. bruce

Sorry guys, I guess I'm not doing very well at getting my point across. I'm 51 years old so I'm not that far away from retirement myself. I too, have payed a lot into SS and I hope to collect some back from the system (Just not counting on it).



You have to understand though that, while Social Security may have been created with the best of intentions, it is now nothing more than a scam. People that have collected in the past or are now collecting will get fantastic returns on their "contributions". The rest of us will be forced to contribute more and more and will get less and less until the system completely collapses.



We have to figure a way to change this system so that current and close-to-retirement recipitents are protected without bankrupting the rest of us and our children. The idea of having your "own" account that you control and that can be passed on to your children is appealing to me because I know where that money is. One of the reasons we are in such trouble is because politicians couldn't resist spending, rather than investing, the money when there was a big surplus (LBJ's Great Society is probably the most in-your-face example).

I do agree with the concept of our own account for SS. I do not however see the present goverment even coming cose to any REAL plan to put this in motion. And if they did you can bet it would take another two or three bureaus to make it go, not to mention the red tape you would have to jump through to change or even draw it at retirement.



It is like socialized medicine, the concept is good, but by the time our goverment gets ahold of it, wellllll you know the rest..... The tax break that GW put through last year. It was nice to have a little extra cash back, however when I went to pay my taxes the new laws were (shall we say) confusing as he11..... So now we have a tax break and tax laws that are five times more confusing (most doing there own taxes won't know how to take advantage of the breaks).



I don't see SS as a scam, I do see it as a political platform, lockbox, individual accounts, and so on. And like you say all of the past administrations and the future will have some new idea on how to distribute, spend, or use it for their own little plan or purpose.



I am not dependant on just SS and I hope that no one else is. I have stock plan (too much oil stock) and retirement plan also. I do hope it is still there when I retire. If it isn't, so be it. But I would sure hate to be the administration in office when it falls!



I was mistaken on the budget numbers, sorry, geez. I was thinking of the increases in this years budget. I guess I won't post anymore numbers. Will that keep you guys happy?
