The only problem I see with Nitrous is it being a resource that's difficult to renew while on the road. I'm guessing you can't just get it filled at your average truck stop or gas station when it runs out. Being able to make the power without it tends to mean it's on tap whenever it's needed without having to worry about running out of spray, etc... Although technically the power you gain with nitrous is directly relatable to the power gained other ways assuming both gains are otherwise equal, IMO it's much cooler to make the power without spray.

I don't know why so many people slam this transmission. This unit is based on legendary Chrysler torqueflite technology. By this I mean that they ARE garbage as built from the factory, but once gone through, I think they do pretty well. They do very well in high HP automotive apps.

I don't know much about the Allison 1000- other than it's not anything like the "real" MT's, HT's and world series that I'm used to dealing with. I hear nothing but bad things about the Ford unit in the real world.

i am no transmission expert but i know that the gears ratios are set up better on these two trans. they also seem to put the power to the ground more effectively via better converters etc. now when we talk modding these trannys i will take the 48re b/c modded its a flat out monster!( ps go billet or go home i am speaking from experiance)

When it came time for me to purchase my first diesel i had narrowed it down to ford and dodge because i just don't consider something with IFS a truck. After that all it took was one look at the engine bay of the ford and i knew the dodge was for me. Sure the powerstroke has more power stock but i just saw way too much stuff going on under the hood it was a complete cluster f**k for lack of a better term and i wouldn't even know where to begin to diagnos the most simple problems. I have absolutly no regrets about buying my 01. And after i got my EZ in it feels just as fast as my bosses stock 03 PSD. Just my . 02.
