2008 GMC Yukon 150,000 miles on it.......238.62 per year..

2004 Cougar in 2006 was $450.00 or so, 2007 was $303.60....bottomed out at the five year mark to $134.64

2006 Dodge Ram....my favorite example.....First year was ....wait for it.......$1112.96....now down to $229.66. Never will get any lower....

Well as Wayne so aptly put it, "I guess they all suck."

Yes, Sales Tax of 5.5% applies when you buy something which is in addition to the registration / excise tax.....

R/V trailers and horse trailers are subject to the sales tax as well......

The excise tax mil rate is set by the town one resides in. It can be less money to register if you live in Bangor, Me instead of Lincoln, Me just because the mil rate is lower......

For example the Cougar value is based on the suggested list when new...

So Base is $28,160.00

Mil rate for Lincoln 5 years of age and older is 0.0040... That's $112.64
Registration fee....... $20.00
Agent fee.....$2.00

Total Registration cost is 134.64 for one year.

Base on the Yukon is $46,655.00

Base on the RAM is $44,415.00. It used to be based on what you paid, then about 12 years ago they made it be based on the window sticker. That sucks when you pay $10,000.00 less than window sticker for a vehicle...so Sales Tax based on what you really paid, Excise Tax based on Window Sticker.....

All these schmucks that lease....they still have to pay the sales tax AND the high dollar registration......no way...

That’s nuthin. Here you pay sales tax (6%) at time of purchase. Then reg. For my 3500 srw it’s $122.50. But that’s not all. Next I get to pay town property tax on that truck. Year after year after year. 2015 Tradesman with 110,000 miles. The town says this year it’s worth $29K and taxes me $939. It might drop $100 or so next year, if I’m lucky. My wife’s car still costs $500+ per year for town tax. It’s a 12 year old Pontiac GTO. Our mil rate is about $33 per $1000 valuation.

Guess I shouldn't be complaining,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT I WILL ANYWAY.

Dave

PLUS.....you don't have to worry about your stuff dissolving into a pile of rust after 8 years....

But you still get to complain:):D.........any increase with notification or without still sucks regardless of the state....

I pay $718 annually for my 2016 SRW 3500 so all ya'll can go suck an egg

That seems ballpark for AZ too for a 2016, mine is 10 years older than yours so it's quite a bit cheaper. Again, for me, it's not really about the money but about the complete lack of transparency and where this money is going and why we suddenly have to pay it.

This will cost me roughly another 10 bucks a month which doesn't sound like much and it really isn't. However, doing some simple math and making some assumptions there are about 3 million "housing units" in AZ according to the census. Let's assume each one of those "units" have 1.5 cars at $32 bucks. That's 144 million a year...nice chunk of change.

Will it eventually drop??

It does but not as much as you'd think, it's based off of vehicle weight and rating. I bought this one from Dave Smith so I had to have it smogged and weighed for DMV. I went over the scales on empty and tailgate and spare tire removed just to be as light as possible.

Still cheap, I pay 1300 $ a year and the older the truck the more it RAISES.
They want new cars on the road, we are blackmailed from the government into buying vehicles.

That's crazy! Arizona is actually pretty reasonable. Here, the price goes down for 20 years and then stops. The new $32 fee is more than the total on the '91 Dodge.

Even with 16k gvw, motor carrier and diesel rig, my '01 was $234 this year. Three of my trailers are registered for 10,000 lbs, permanent tags for $135. Two are registered for 10,001, permanent tags are about $400. When you buy a trailer out of state you only pay state sales tax, no city or county.

I heard there are 6 million registered vehicles in AZ. That's gonna be a lot of cash. I am sure they will waste at least some of it the best way they see fit. Like Wayne, way back when in Pa. registration was 35 a year so it was quite a shock when I arrived in Az. and payed their structured payment. I still think they should have let the people have a voice in this instead of the Obama/Pelosi approach of just throwing it in your face like health care.

This is not directed at anyone.

I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest, but if all the people who reside here, but are playing the Montana, Oregon, etc. registration scam were paying in maybe, just maybe, the fees would not be as high. If you want to live here, soak up the sunshine, and utilize the roads and services, then pay up. That's the price of sunshine. If it gets to where I don't like it here, I'll move, but I won't game the system. Rant over.

I agree but some are snowbirds and not here year round. I do see a lot of out of state plates when snowbird season is over and they are traveling during the go to/from work hours. Now if they are doing this it is against the law if working in Az. with a certain time frame I think is like 6 Months. So if your an out of state worker and get pulled over the officer may ask the questions are you working and how long. If over the limit instant ticket and required to change registration. As far as being able to afford the registration, when you bought it everything may have been fine but if you get blind sided by fee's like AZ. just did that can change everything although 32 a year should not break the bank unless you are on a fixed income it is 1 of how many more things they can dump on people. Seem's we had quite a battle quite a while back over these type's of tactic's.

There was a time Law Enforcement would patrol through business parking lots noting out of state plates. I do not know if it was instantaneous or over a period of time but they would catch violators using this tactic. I have not heard of them doing this in quite a few years, maybe they should bring this back.
