Wow the paint on my 2001 sure is weak. So I have begun to Armor it; just ordered North West Custom rocker panels and soon will decide what design North West custom mud flaps I will get!! YIPEE! The rocker panels cover within several inches of the bottom of the truck; Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to protect the area beneath where the rocker panel ends? I know I could go with the running boards but I really want Nerf Bars and something to cover the bottom even if it is made of black plastic. Any Ideas? I geuss maybe running boards will have to do; suggestions on them would be good also. OH yeah and I need to protect that area above the wheels!!!!!

If the area above the wheels you are talking about is the turned under lip of the fenders, I have a suggestion for you. Just after I purchased my truck, I coated that area with clear silicone sealer. Four and 1/2 years later, I don't have a single paint chip on that lip.

Granted, if you look at that coated area, it doesn't look all that great (it is somewhat stained by embedded dirt), but it does prevent deterioration (rust).

jponer, you might talk to the Line-X or Rhino people. I live on gravel road and needless to say it can be tough on paint. I haven't done this but I was told that putting this coating on panels would eliminate those panel chips. Take it for what it's worth.

When I had my Line-X bed liner applied I had them spray the rocker panels basically from the molding down. It looks great, is easy to clean and no chips. The Line-X dealer took a few pictures for his shop to show potential customers.

Thanks for the replies. Hey Cocahoe I was born in Baton Rouge and Raised in Amite,La. Do you mean they sprayed the area and then you put the panels on so now they covered the line x and where they ended was just line x. My paint is white so I was thinking wonder what it would look like for the rams head and Cummins Power lettering to show through the cutouts black. I travel to La often as my kids live in Hammond so what shop did this for you thanks

Hiya J, I thought about spraying the rocker panels with a product called "body-shutz. It's a rubberized undercoating made by 3M. I undercoated the cab with it. I think the Line-X would be a tougher coating tho.

Contact abledog- he two-toned his truck with Line-X. They did from the wheel openings on the front to the rocker panels, rear openings, quarter panels and rear bumper- it looks great!

Ditto on what bill said. After seeing this truck in person, Line-x on the rockers will be my next addition. Abledog's truck looks perfect, best line-x job I have ever seen. I was extremely skeptical about having this done until i saw his truck in person, but after seeing it, i'm sold. He had it done at line-x in san antonio.
