So two years or 30 k drain the atf fluid add make up then four years or 60 k drain pan drop new filter so I take it you Amsoil guys are going to mix and match fluids for a while I’m not anti Amsoil so don’t flame me .Just the mix part is my concern.suppose there’s nothing wrong with it. We have 16 inch of new snow and still snowing heard. We will send you some ho ho ho

All fluids are "mix and match" as the normal change procedure is a drain and fill.

So first drain only is about 8 qts at 2 years and at 4 years pan drop and filter change it’s about 12 quarts I will probably just buy a case as any left over should keep for 3 years right. I never knew oil etc and filters went bad just sitting on the shelf but that’s what I’m hearing now

From Mobile--“Short” and “Normal” Shelf-Life Products Normal Shelf Life: In general, the recommended shelf life for oils and greases is typically five years when stored properly in the original sealed containers.

This whole thread was asking about possible differences between AS68RS and Mobile 3309.

I knew this would turn out to be poking a hornets nest!

Sometimes one should keep an open mind, but, do what makes you comfortable. Don't always take the OEM recommendation as Gospel: After several oil revisions from the OEM a "Shop Queen" vehicle of mine was run through Lemon Law because they couldn't keep a rear end in it. The OEM finally figured it out.

The Forums had figured it out before the Arrogant OEM got enough warranty and LEMON claims to assign someone to look into it. Eaton specified Dyno oil for their posi clutches with a warning about synthetic. Yeah, Synthetic for the OEM's no maintenance long life oil standard operating procedure. And Synthetic was what was put in at the factory. The clutches coming apart took the rear ends out in a short time. As usual OEM: "Lets change the oil with revision, what revision we on now?, and hope it makes it out of warranty." They didn't.

The forums were saying use dyno oil because it's on the supplier's website. o_O Yeah yeah obsolete clutch material that needed an update, but, that what was slapped together by the OEM and "OOPS!"

So IF there was a synthetic oil problem with THIS transmission it would be a known thing. Instead you can read about transmissions replaced under warranty for other reasons and AMSOIL not being a show stopper when the OEM asked for records.

After all Dex 6 and Allison Transmission problems came to be known real quick.

Today we get over 100K out of engines due to better oil (and fuel control on gasoline rigs). I also experienced engine oil leaks with the early Mobil 1 synthetic back in the day.

My buddy has gone through two engines in 280K towing scrap metal to the recycle yard with a MY 2000 3.9L V6 Dakota. He changed the transmission oil ONCE with AMSOIL and has left it alone since. I would have changed it more often myself, but, simply an example. He really needs a V8 Hemi or a I6 Cummins to do what he does. His 1/2 ton upgrade with a V6 has had an engine replacement too...

I think a picture is worth a thousand words.

Not an Amsoil fan at all.

would search the world over for any other fully synthetic before letting a quart of Amsoil in my garage.

I am happy to hear so many have good luck with the stuff, it’s just not for me.

So going to order my Amsoil for my 30K service as I need to go it prior to a trip to WV end of OCT. I have some ATF on the shelf from my previous 04 since, but was curious since on the webpage they are showing only 2 options. One is OE ATF and the other Signature ATF. Without doing a ton of research on it what are you all using in the AISIN? I will likely buy a case (or two) since it is also spec'd for the T case and PS. Side question, I changed my diff oil also (dumped the factory fill) at 10k and put in severe gear, I was considering doing the rear axle but not the front since I rarely use 4wd, but do need to keep up with that 8/125 warranty.

Plans are:
Engine oil / filter / air filter
Fuel filter(s)
Trans drain and fill
T/C drain and fill
Brake fluid (turkey baster swap)
Rear Axle?
Cabin Air Filter
Tire rotation... 30k and almost toast..

I use the Signature Series.

Not that it affects is, but the OE doesn’t meet the requirements for Chrysler ATF +4.

I did the suck and fill on the PS fluid as well. It’s a 78mo/97.5K mile service interval, but I think that’s way too long for such an abused fluid.

I’ll do brake fluid when I do my trans services.

Have you had the truck aligned? The factory alignment specs were murder on the outer edges of my front tires. Wear is looking much better since going to Thuren specs.

OK,. thanks for the info, I'll order it, is there a trick to measuring how much comes out of the AISIN to put that back in? I normally use my big drum on my lift and don't worry about what came out, but have heard of others measuring / then putting back the "same" amount.

No I have not had it aligned, but I suppose when I get new tires in the spring I'll do it then. Wear is been pretty even but I'm mostly on pavement and rotating every 5k. I've never really got more than about 40k out of BFGs or OEM (Transforce) so I considered likely 35k to be adequate.. The best mileage I got was with some Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my 04, but who knows I sold it with them on it at about 25k and 1/2 tread left.

It's roughly 7-7.3 quarts. I add 7 quarts and use the dipstick to fine tune it. I don't subscribe to the measure and refill the exact amount, there is a dipstick and a known quantity to start with on the refill.

I DO use the check fluid level before and if it IS at the full mark I drain, measure and fill with exact amount. I then check it later when at op temp. It's always right ON. Really don't see a negative to doing this???

I also use the signature series but pay a bit less than that.

Just an extra step that isn’t necessary. Do you do the same with your engine oil? Or differentials?

Extra steps? I think your method checkin later plus the time to add and re check is more time consuming. But hey we all have our ways and sometimes learn from others.

UH, you know I add 11 2/3 quarts every time and my oil is right on full.

Hardly, but whatever works for you.

You didn’t answer my question thou, do you measure other fluids when you drain them?

Makes me smile every time I read this . :D

Side question, AISIN takes about 7.5qt for a fluid drain / refill, how much does the transfer case take? Trying to get this done this week before I head out to KS.

Thanks!.. I picked up a few qts today, then found out the case of Amsoil I ordered yesterday will be here tomorrow!

Are there any special tq values for the drain plug on the AISIN or TC?. Plan to drive truck to work and back tomorrow, then throw it up on the lift and do engine, AISIN, TC fluids and fuel / oil filters, rotate what's left of my Transforce tires one more time and throw in a new air & cabin filter.
