I currently am running the asa modified intake with the afe filter and outerwears sock. My question is can i run a bhaf paper filter like from napa on the asa pipe and if so what # filter and what waterproof sock? Thankyou.

Yes, there are a number of paper elements. You'll need one with a four inch ID. They are larger and will/may require you to adjust the pipe outboard support. The filter is much heavier. You may alos desire to add a support to this filter. Most, use the Old Skoky style mount (build one) for the large paper element.

I'd stick with the aFe

Couldn't have said it better. Scott is right - the BHAF is quite heavy and while our support hardware can handle the weight it isn't a bad idea to reinforce the heavy end. We have seen a simple strap going around the bottom of the filter and bolting onto the underside of the fender edge where it meets the hood.

We are actually working on prototypes for bolt in heat shields that would also double as supports - essentially a sheetmetal 'box' that encloses the filter to the corner of the fender, further isolating the filter from both heat and water. We haven't seen or heard of any problems with water but the additional shielding can never hurt. It will require drilling two holes in the inside edge of the fender and also re-uses the holes for the factory air box support on the inner wheel well. More to follow.

Max,

I will have to get you to bring me one of those shields next time you come to Moab... Make it a deductible business trip. ;)

Thanks for the info. For now i,ll stay with the afe . I was just concerned about running the afe after reading another forum that found bad oil tests with afe and even the pro-guard 7 compared to the paper filter.
