First VP44 failed and replaced at 85K. Installed FASS lift pump and then my second VP44 failed last week at 99K. The latest pump is a remanufactured unit built by a certified Bosch dealer in Modesto, CA: Associated Fuel Injection.

the culprit is the lift pump failing to adaquetly supply fuel to the VP44. After 2 VP44 failures we replaced the lift pump with a FASS brand lift pump. 200,000+ miles later no more pump problems. Replace it NOW. A VP 44 will set you back app. $1,000. Dealer labor can set you back an additional grand.

My FASS lift pump is installed near the fuel tank and my last VP44 failed with only 15K miles on it. I Have a minimum fuel pressure of 12 pounds under full throttle.

Had Fass Lift Pump installed around 79,000 miles w/ fuel pressure gauge. First VP44 (stock) diesd @ 126,555 This morning I was driving home from work and I'm pretty sure the 2nd one just died 146,000 miles i'll find out Monday from the mechanic.

Installed FASS at 100K after replacing 4 factory lift pumps.
Always monitor fuel pressure and change 3 micron fuel filters every 15k

Mine lasted to 458.000 miles. Didn't really die but the truck became harder to start. First lift pump went about 250 k replacements only about 100k. Currently have 120K on second injection pump. Truck is at 576K now with original injectors.

I suspect I might have done so well because if lift pump was weak fuel would about siphon from in bed tank I was on most of the time.

I bought the truck in 2001, it had 42,000 on it. Drove it for 3,000 miles, and the first one died. Next time it was around 76,000 miles. Last one was at 105,000. I now have 161,000 miles, and so far, so good.

First VP44 died at 89,000, second one at 178,000. Now on the 4th lift pump, an OEM type. Moved the lift pump to the frame after the first failure. A FASS stock typelift pump lasted 40,000miles. Added fuel pressure gauge after the 1st VP44. The lift pumps and VP44's die suddenly, I haven't caught a low lift pump pressure yet (have to watch the road) maybe need an audible warning.
01 D2500, 5 spd, 4WD, 189,000mi. Bone stock except 4in exhaust.

2002 2500 HO Six Speed -

First one set codes and had performance problems at 64,000 miles - replaced VP44 and lift pump at 87,000 miles (done under warranty - new lift installed in tank).

I currently have 202,000 miles on the truck and it is running fine.

At 176000. Lucky (?) I was starting to back out of driveway to go on a trip. Moved about 5 feet and just quit. Replacement lasted about 1500 miles. Sent it back and they found a bad solder joint in the computer where the big connector mounted to board. Now at 226000. I moved lift pump to frame near tank when first one failed at 102000. Have replaced it three times, 3rd one is an Artex instead of Carter.

I'm on my third but in fairness my truck has had an Edge Comp, tapped pump wire and stage two injectors since 30,000 miles. First failed at under 100k. Second went about 50k miles later. I'm at 260k now so at 110k on this one with no issues. Should point out I bought the last one from Farmboy Diesel and installed it myself. Don't even know if he's still around - I haven't been real active on TDR lately but if he is, that's where I'd buy a VP44.

128000 with the original stock lift pump. Would have still been ticking if the LP did not fail.

Got 210,000 out of the stock one with Fass pump installed @ 43,000. Upgrade to a hotrod pump and have 155,00 so far on this one.

Just died today on way to work. Got a P1688 code - had replaced the lift pump (stock) - third one in truck - 3 days ago.

'99 2500 5.9L with 306,000 miles on it.

Wish it had gone longer, but no grounds to complain about it. Now, who makes or rebuilds the best?? I think I will put a Fass in it to see if the next one can do better.
