Competition pulln gears

I'll get more posted soon on the DPM web site, but we had a blast.

Winner goes to Kevin Robinson with the STP Dakota with a 12. 25 @ 111 mph.

2nd place went to a local STP customer with a 17. 45 in his 3500 towing truck.

3rd place went to Robert Patton in his diesel bug running 17. 04 (don't have the numbers in front of me)

4th place went to Kenny Acree in a STP 2500 running 13. 65 @ 103mph

5th Place went to Jeff Garmon in the STP drag truck running 11. 63 @ 112 mph.

Clint of ATS was scorching the Duramax down the track with 13. 4's and our good friend Jet Pilot Doug Smith (which JetPilot no longer refers to his jobbut rather his truck) ran a 12. 1 @ just under 118 mph. :--)

There will be more to post after I take a small rest and chill for a few hours and we will have all the results posted on the DPM website. When we get that finished(thanks Randy), I'll let everyone know. We will have pics and Mpegs for your viewing pleasure;)

I'll let Eric explain what happened to his truck, but he was unable to race. I'll look forward to his passes next year.

Thanks to EVERYONE that helped out, from the guys shooting the photos to Clint of ATS bringing 4 trucks down all of which made really quick passes. (I'll let CMonroe tell you how happy he was. :)

A special thanks to STP for making it possible to make my first 13 second pass (13. 65 @ 99 mph) and providing the support needed to pull this off.

I found something worse than red-lighting on the first elimination round! And that's breaking while in the staging lights on the first run of the day!!!!!

Well, I will post about it in the products forum, but the forward gears welded together on the transmission.

I want to thank DPM and all that attended the Mopar Southern Nationals! Even though I didn't get to make any passes, I had a blast. The drag racing community is wonderful.

Doug (JetPilot) has an 11 second truck people! He ran 12. 1 with that electronic engine defueling off the line and at the 1000' mark! Incredible!

Craig Monroe, I bow to recognize the best 5-speed shifting I have ever witnessed.

Kevin took the burnout contest and the 1st place, big BZ to you Kevin, you are one hell of a racer.

To all the folks at DPM that made Atlanta possible I want to say "Thanks". But there are a couple people that went above and beyond for me. I want to give a special thanks to David Dunbar that not only put this wonderful event together but also opened up his home for me to stay at while I was in Atlanta, and to Southern Truck Parts especially Jeff Garmon for giving me access to their shop to do some tuning upon arriving at the event.

The weekend was a blast! I fought a lot of issues with the truck not only on Friday's "test and tune" but also on Saturday's races. This event turned into more of a troubleshoot and tune instead of race for me... . But, I did find out and fixed a few things along the way. I had a map sensor go bad and that took several runs to decipher. Also as Eric says I have a HUGE defueling problem in 1st. gear. The truck pretty much falls on its face for the first 250 feet or so, then runs like a champ to the 1000 foot mark at which point I start defueling again because I am up against the 3400 rpm limit. Until I can get these fixed the 11's I feel may allude me:(

Stakeman,

I don't have the numbers in front of me but I know, JetPilot ran 12's all day while troubleshooting (wish I had that problem ;) ) one of the ATS trucks was 12. 5, Kevin was 12. 25 in the Dakota, and Jeff was 11. 63 in the drag truck. If I missed anyone, chime in.

There were a few in 13's and so on.

It was hard to leave Atlanta today and head to Nashville for the "real job" as I am ready to get going on DPM's spring kickoff. :D

I had a great time down there as well. Unforetunately because of my recent surgery I wasn't able to have my truck there - I flew down on the wednesday before to do some TDR work. Foretunately Robert was nice enough to loan me their '02 1500 gasser auto so I was able to race (even if it wasn't in the diesel class :( ). Good news is that I won the money class by running a 17. 222 against my 17. 220 dial in! The second place guy was . 003 off of his! . . . . . . . New turbo on the way next week for the truck :D

It was an awesome display of diesel power - you guys should have heard the guys in the gasser class talking about the diesels when we were in the staging lanes! One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet - what about ATS's Duramax that was in the 13's!? One screaming dmax! Too bad it looked like it was going to self destruct on every launch - I've never seen a truck so out of shape out of the hole!

Well thats what I like about these events, I was able to meet more really good people threw the TDR. Thanks to the STP guys for letting us drop trailers and do last minute adjustments to the trucks at their shop. And thanks for the complement Eric, coming from you that really means something. Well I ran 13. 52 Hard on the brakes and still broke out. Not bad on #2 diesel and a five speed. I now have about five things I want to do for next year, and hopefully that will get me in the 12's on #2 with a 5 speed. Can someone do the math and tell me how much horsepower that will take. It was also the first time I saw the STP Dakota and all I can say about that is its just plan STUPID!!!

had a great time talking with every one again but then you allways have a good time with setdr group thanks to Robert for letting use spend the night at his house for a fresh drive home sunday can't what for next year hopfully I will have the lil red express there George

I see you belong to the DDRA. What happened to their web site? Are they still in "business"?

wxman,

It's not the DDRA but the DHRA "Diesel Hot Rod Association". If you would like more info pm me and I will get back to you.

Actually Stakeman I thought I was loosing the NV4500 on the way home. I was really pushing it all the way back home towing the D-max. I averaged about 80mph all the way home. Somewhere just inside Kansas the stick was getting hard to work lots of play. I thought the 5th gear nut may have been backing out so I slowed down, Yea right. And when I got back in Denver I found it was just the top plate coming off. So I just tightened it up but I used thread lock this time.

As far as I can tell Stakeman it is the fastest manual on #2 diesel on record. I am pretty sure we just beat the twin turbo trucks on a single turbo. I may be wrong, if I am I want to know. But I wan't 12's bad now man.

Cmonroe;

I got MPEGs of all of the runs, with the exception of the first set of dialing-in runs. David and Randy are gonna be uploading some of them somewhere.

Hey Craig - do you have the numbers for Clint and the other Dodge ATS brought down. They must have missed my list as they are not on the DPM website and I need to get them on it.

I remember the Duramax was hauling at like 13. 4's. I take my hat off to Clint for piloting that thing down the track. First 60 ft with that independant front end fighting for traction  was a trip. But I know the Dodge they had down was flat hauling a$$ in the 12's and I don't have the times. Please get them for me if you can.

The pictures are in and hopefully we will get them installed Monday.

Sorry it's taken a week to get them up, the ones I have seen are good!!

Later all,

I'll have the guys dig up the slips and get you the numbers David. I want to say Mike was running 12. 50's but I'm not sure if that was his fastest run. And the D-max was fun to watch, not bad for a Chevy. Maybe we will see you guys down in Texas in November.

I *think* I caught all their runs. I have the time board magnified in an inset in all the pics. Waiting for Randy to get me the upload location info.
