OK, so I'm on my quest to pick a color for a new truck. I use my truck offroad regularly and the manzanita bushes and assorted obsticles take their toll on my paint. On my '99 I have light driftwood, a perfect color for covering up those scratches, but not available on a 2004. 5. :( I was focusing on the light colors, but I don't want white or silver and the light almond is a little too blah for me... reminds me of my parents' Camry. So, I was thinking Atlantic blue is a bit lighter than the patriot blue, and if I got silver 2-tone on the bottom, that would at least cover up the gravel damage some, but will the blue still be a pain to keep looking good in a scratch prone environment? I had a teal Jeep once (about the same darkness maybe a tad lighter) that showed scratches pretty bad but once I waxed it, they just disappear.

So, anyone with Atlantic blue that uses their vehicle offroad and has scratched it up some want to comment on its scratch-hiding ability, or lack thereof?

My sister's Atlantic Blue 2500 Hemi shows the scratches her idiotwonder German Shepard leaves all over it. She doesn't care. The truck is a tool for her veterinary work. But the scratches are noticable to me, but I'm a little more in tune to scratches since I used to do automotive paint restoration.

For the rocker panels? May I suggest that you have the rocker panels shot with rhino or Line-x or equivilent. Really works well. Also, look in my reader's rigs at my Father In Law's new 600. His mud flaps are extra wide and cover a lot more of the wheel well than most. If you are interested in these mud flaps, let me know. They are 100 bucks for a set of 4 and are well worth the money. They seem to work a ton better at stopping rocks and mud than normal size and height flaps I've seen.

I have better, higher res pictures of the mudflaps on the 600. If you want them, I can email them to you.

I atlantic blue on my 01. 5 and I thought the paint held up pretty well. If I could do my 04. 5 over again, I'd get the atlantic blue two-tone instead of the deep moltin red.

Dodges paint is **** poor on all of our trucks. No matter what they all scratch easy. I guess we dont pay enough money for our trucks to get a good paint and clear coat

I like mine....

I like the way my truck paint is holding up. The atlantic blue seems to hide some of the cedar tree scratches that I get out here in Utah. Seems to buff out pretty good.

yep... i have been lucky and i haven't recieved any dings or scratches yet, but i did manage to give myself one on the edge of my tail gate. it is small, [2xhair width, 1. 25" long] when i had to break into my truck cap [lock decided to break in the locked position:mad:] . i used the jack handles [all 4] linked together to pull back on the cables to unlatch the cap door [i am glad i have the rear sliding window] and the end rubbed the tailgate edge. took off the paint so i could see grey primer, but it actually blends in with the blue pretty well... from a far, you can't see it, but close you can... [and a tailgate cap is on order now... for next time]

I do alot of offroading and hunting and that quite often means a ton of Mesquite bushes rubbing the truck. The truck has shown to hold up quite well to the brush rubbing it. I do not have any scratches that exposed metal or a discolored primer under the atlantic blue. I think that the color is a good medium between light colors such as white and the dark colors like the patriot blue or black.

i happen to really like the color, I have had other blues, white silver, pewter... and in my opinion this one is my favorite.

That wasn't my question... I *KNOW* they scratch easy, which just reinforces my question... WHEN they scratch, does Atlantic Blue show the scratch better or worse than other colors?

Vstahl, thanks for the input, that's exactly what I was looking for... if the surface scratches don't expose a nasty really light color underneath, and they can be buffed out fairly simply, I can deal with that...

Thanks everyone for your responses so far... keep 'em coming all you Atlantic Blue OWNERS... thx :)

You have patriot blue... I'm looking for input from those people who have lived with it at take their truck on the trail from time to time... of course any scratch is going to show up on a color like Atlantic Blue, but the question is does it come out with a quick wax/buff or is it a hopeless cause like the patriot blue, dark graphite, and black...

If you do get a scratch, the white primer under the paint seems to show up pretty good. I have a few rock chips from a trip to Wyoming that you can see the white primer on.

I love the color though! :)

When my son got out of my truck the other day, he got his baseball bag out of the back seat. He put the bag over shoulder, closed the door and turned. When he turned. the bag brushed the side of the door and put three scratches on the door through the clear coat, Atlantic Blue paint and into the white primer underneath. Yes they stick out like a sore thumb. I am very dissapointed at how easy it was to scratch that deeply into the paint. But other than that, I love the color.
