Yes I do believe they will be getting my old auto transmission back in good shape. When it started putting out a grinding noise going into second gear I figured it to be the forward planetary going bad. It was suppose to be a no brain-er and just upgrade to an ATS transmission. I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived on Tuesday! Three days later I’m out for the test drive. Again I have grinding noise going into second gear! Help!
The only thing between the transmission and tires is the rear end, drive shaft and…. the NP241hd transfer case. Back on the road for some more tests and I found that when shifting into 4w high it shifts into second gear just fine. Same for 4w low. Back to 2wd and the grinding into second gear comes back. Shifting into 3rd and lock up is ok also. Tomorrow I will check to ensure the transfer case shift mechanism is pushing it all the way into 2wd. It’s a straight shaft through to the drive shaft so what could it be? And why does the grinding noise happen only going to 2nd gear in 2wd???? ATS transmission was over 4k$$ and that was my Christmas present to myself. Now I’m going to have to dig deeper into the wallet! Help me out if you have heard of this transmission problem. Thanks. . -Ken
