They can have it, too many cylinders, probably gets 10 miles per gallon.

P. S. Ill race one up hill loaded to the gills and see who gets to the top first.

Audi didn't make a v12 just because they could. There is are reasons behind it.

First off it's 6 liters. Displacement is displacement. just about the same as the Cummins. It's fuel consumption should be the same or better under same conditions. Heck, easier to get air into each cylinder, less room to fill up per hole.

Second. there are twice the amount of power cycles in that motor. that would make things extreamly smooooooooth.

third, you have more pulses into the turbos, there for they will spool faster and can be bigger, there for more boost = more power.

4th, lighter internal parts. higher RPMS. Something we are all looking for in our motors. (read, duramax, powerstoke, 2 liter TDI's).

How about 2 Common Rail Cummins, 1 in the engine compartment and 1 in the Bed like that Jeep consept with the HEMI's... Put some twins with Modded CP3's, injectors and what not and you have yourself a pretty cool truck...

Go buy one then... . There is a reason Peterbilts and Kenworths and Freightliners and dare I say Internationals, have large INLINE motors. For what reason you ask... . LONGEVITY and RELIABILITY. PERIOD. Thats why I dont own a D-Max or a Stroke-n-Poke. P. S. the new Cummins is 6. 7 liters, and, the little fact that Cummins has proven itself again and again in this market. Six in a row built to go!

The application for a car and a truck are different I would expect. Maybe this motor is to be placed in a chassis that's requires a v-design?

As far as power, this Audi motor obviously makes more power at the flywheel then the same sized cummins motor correct? As for as reliability, time will tell, like other audi motors, they do last a long while.

serviceability... those larger engines are easy to in-frame overhaul to new condition [pistons, rings & liners, bearings. . ] much harder to inframe a vee engine

your not really comparing apples to apples here with our lil' isb and that new VW 6. 0v12. . a faster reving/higher reving engine is more appropreate in a smaller suv. a v12 is the best balanced engine you can get so it will run very smooth in the luxuary suv they are putting it in. . that suv won't be rated to tow what out pickups can, but who would with it?

Once again, one would look real nice in your driveway :D

audi & vw same company... different badge on the engine cover.

Lets not forget about porsche. The cayenne would fly with that under the hood! Too bad porsche said they will not put a diesel under the hood of their cars because it does not meet there image! porsche sux!

I,for one, would consider a VW Toureg with a diesel. Jeep is going to offer a Mercedes diesel in the Grand Cherokee next year with power about the same as the Hemi version. A V12 VW Toureg would give Jeep a run for their money, depending on the price differential.

When the Toureg was introduced, a V10 diesel was offered as previously mentioned in the thread. The V10 had trouble meeting emissions requirements and was pulled soon after it was introduced. I am glad VW has demonstrated their commitment to the diesel market. This is a niche no one else is currently exploiting. A diesel SUV makes more sense then a twin turbo high revving V8 as in the Porsche. So it isn't a RAM, neither is a Mercedes 320CD, and I wouldn't mind driving one of those to work either.
