In the September 18th Autoweek:

Audi SUV

6. 0 L, 60° V12

Twin Turbo

Diesel

500 HP

738 lb-ft @ 1,750-3,000 RPM

ZF 6-speed Automatic (limits engine output)

I wonder if it will fit in my Ram 3500...

I would think it would fit, but why replace the cummins. I would try to make that fit in my 64' Chevy Stepside. Don't fix what ain't broke. There would be cooler appl. for that engine truck swap then a poor Ram with the beauty of a cummins under the hood.

What amazes me even more is just how easily we could reach those power levels with the 6 cyl Cummins. Actually at 500 hp I think most guys well exceed the 738 lb/ft level of torque. I suspect you do not want to know the cost of the Audi engine compared to the Cummins either

Or the fact that it's an AUDI!!!!

Do you think that engine will see 200,000 miles - well heck most of our trucks won't either - fp;ks are to fickle to keep up with the Jones'es... ... .

Well the Audi is a V12, i. e. two I-6 mated together ... . sooooooo what if you mated two I-6 Cummins together to create a v12? What would be the hp/tq levels. There is something to ponder.

Actually, they could get a lot more; the turbos suck through a restrictor orifice used to equalise the various engines in the series. And yes, they intentionally limit the torque so the trans will live (kinda like the Cummins!).

That diesel is already out in the VW Toureg. I've never seen one as diesel passenger vehicles are FORBIDDEN in the People's Republic of Maine. Can't even get a diesel Jeep Liberty here.

210,000 and counting :-laf When I reach 500,000, I'll buy one of those wore out 50,000 mile rigs :D

The toureg is a V10. and only 500 foot pounds.

heh, is it me, or does that motor have a rather high "ego emissions"? Come one now, do we really needs 500hp? Isn't that just being hypocritical now?

Yeah, that stupid tv ad about ego emissions and VW's came up when I got cut off (and proceeded to return the favor) by a VW this morning.

Welllllllll, not really..... granted, it DOES have twice as many cylinders, but it still only displaces 6. 0L versus our 5. 9L.

Now, if it was a twin-turbo 12. 0L v12... ... ... :--)

I stand corrected, however, I never thought I'd hear someone say ONLY 500 foot-lbs. when talking about a tiny SUV! Oo. Either way a forbidden product in Maine. Word is the 2007 emissions may allow diesel passenger cars to be sold in Maine.

The only bad news about either the VW or the Audi diesel is:

You can only get it in a VW or an Audi. :D

hehe. . yeah, but it would NOT spin to 3k rpm..... not very well anyway...

Just mate two Cummins end-to-end, an inline 12. Small cockpit at the back of the engine compartment, two seats, instruments, fire control computer and navigaton console. Two 250 gallon side-saddle fuel tanks. Ready for the highway.

How about mounting the 2nd engine in the box and keeping the cab as is :D

Just think what the chipped numbers on that V12 will be. I have chipped 100s of TDI VWs and they do see well over 200K mi on a regular basis. The little 1. 9L TDI puts out 100ft/lbs per liter when chipped(at the wheels). My 1. 8T passat put out 249ft/lbs at the wheels with a chip and a larger turbo(turbo used the same castings for turbine and vompressor so only slightly larger)- VW/Audi/Porsche make some good stuff.

hmm, wonder how well an inline 12 would be that is only 6 liters. . Long and thin motor, but twice as many power cycles then a 6 naturally.

They can have it, too many cylinders, probably gets 10 miles per gallon.

P. S. Ill race one up hill loaded to the gills and see who gets to the top first.
