Everybody. . thanks for your input about the 3rd gauge... . BUT...

the 3 gauge mounted pod on the dashboard is a royal pain... I think I am going to go with the A-pillar mount. There is just way too much stuff to deal with in installing the dash pod. It is a shame, because I really like the look. The A-pillar seems a lot easier and I did use that route to bring in my wiring and tube. . problem is , if you do that the tubing for the boost gauge is too short,,,yea, yea, go get more tubing Eddie... I am still up in the air about my final decision... . the dash pod is much more challenging... look at what you have to remove inside to route the wiring and tubes... . I can't drink that much beer in a day. .

I have a temporary hookup on the two gauges and I need some feedback on the results.

The boost gauge just sits there until I get going... running thru the gears gets me up to 20 psi... is this normal ? I expected a somewhat steady rise and fall... . being a new diesel owner I don't have a clue... . the boost is a slowly moving needle... boost seems to be variable and only under a load...

Now, the EGT gauge... . this silly gauge moves like a tach. Going thru the gears, I see 250-850 degrees that quick. I did read about one person that will not shut down his truck till he hits 250 degrees. I am sure that long distance and also trailer hauling will affect the EGT... . but the needle is moving quite a bit in everyday driving... again is this normal ?

One day, I will be as informed as the rest of you folks and when my girl and I move to New Mexico, I will be a bomber.....

Thank You... Eddie

2001, big truck, almost everything, looking for more

Why are you saying the dash pod is a pain? Are you sure the A Pillar is going to be easier??? I have the dash pod and wouldn't trade it for anything. I bought both the A Pillar mount (triple w/tweeter) and a Dash Pod to have on hand so a friend that just got a 01. 5 could view both, he picked out the dash pod in about 30 seconds over the pillar mount.

What were your plans for the wires and such?

Yes the Boost function sounds normal as well as the EGT function.

Wait until you can make it go all the way over, then you'll be

Dash pod is the way to go. That is what I have and at night is where it pays off. For me the pillar mounts are way too close to my face and at night they detract on the forward vision. I say this with experience to back me up. I tried pillar mounts 25 years ago during my youth when I first started in Marine Aviation. Thought it looked cool. Hard on the eyes though. A friend of mine has them on his pillar and likes them. Routing the tubing and wiring up the pillar was hard (I helped) because there is not much room left over. When I did mine, I just put a 3/4 inch hole in the center of the dash where the pod was going to set. Pulled off the dash panel in the front and remove out the vent controls and just reached in and routed the wires and tube... Took me a couple of hours do to my Aviation background and being kind of anal on how I want the wires routed and tied. Go with what you like. Have fun. :D :D :D

Eddie,

I was going to but the 3 gauge A-pillar in, but once I received it I decided I didn’t like it. I decided to use the gauge cups. I like the cups. You can position them where you want, and I think they look good. Right now I just have them Velcro’ed to the dash until I decide on a final placement. They give a lot of flexibility in positioning.

I was surprised at how quickly EGT increases too, but this is normal. (My EGT is pre-turbo; I’m not sure how temp builds with the post-turbo setup. ) Boost can also shoot up real fast. I usually wait until EGT drops below 300 degrees, thinking that the turbo will cool more slowly.

Good probes will respond quickly

The AutoMeter EGT gauge in my previous CTD Ram

did not respond very quickly compared to the one

I have installed in my 2500. The probe I have

now is the 5244.

As for shutdown temps, I wait for 300 degrees or

lower with the AC turned off. The EGT may not go

below 300 with the AC on due to the increased

load on the engine.
