I just wanted to let the do-it yourselfers like me to be careful replacing the 47re/rh output shaft. After you remove the overdrive unit from the transmission and pull the overdrive assembly out of the housing you'll see a snap ring that holds the output shaft in place. You have to put the unit in a press and support it by the parking pawl teeth and apply a lite pressure to the output shaft BEFORE you remove the snap or the whole thing will explode parts all over your shop.

This is the voice of experience talking. I found this out the hard way.

Injuries?

And how many stiches did you need?? Not too many I hope.

There are a lot of TDR members you could have called and asked about this first!!

I hope you and your trans are OK.

I second Greg's post, your lucky you didnt get hurt, that spring is strong, good thing you were working on that end and didnt try to remove the snap ring on the other side, that would have been much worse. If nothign else the factory service manula would have been well worth the $$ it goes in detail on how to dissasemble the entire unit safely.
