well yeah i was kindof just going to guess ... . i was kindof hoping someone would say yes that will work i have done it. or nope that will not work i have messed up alot of stuff up trying to do that ... ... ... ... what i really want to know if i am going to hurt anything by taking it out ... ... . what if i just get a new hose and connect the two fittings together ... ..... i dont want to mess with the water flow throught the block

anyone else have an opinion on this ... . i want to take the exchanger off and i need to know if i can plug the holes and not mess up water flow or if i should make up a hose to connect one nipple to the other ????

You should be able to take it right off, manual trans trucks don't have one to begin with. I'd plug it and go. good luck! :)

Okay, so in order to install a NV4500 into a 1st gen I will need the block-to-bellhousing spacer/flywheel housing from a 2nd gen 5-speed rig (w/ a NV4500)? I cannot use any spacer from any generation auto-equipped rig?

bringing back the dead

ok my question now is about the clutch hydraulics

i have got

1st gen hydraulics

late second gen hydraulics

pre first gen pedals (1976 ish)

first gen pedals (1992)

2000 nv4500 with a late second gen bell housing adaptor and the bell housing itself

now the body i am using is a 1979 Trailduster, the pedals from the 92 will fit but the problem is that the pivot point or cross shaft is lower in the first gens then the old trucks. that makes the first gen pedals too high off the floor by about 2 inchs.

so b/c of this i want to use the 76 pedals its easy enough now that i have an idea of what mount for the hydraulics looks like to duplicate it on the 76 pedals

all of this brings me to my question ..... the first gen and the second gen hydraulics are different why do i see guys that do the nv4500 swap try and mix match the parts of the hydraulics ? why not just use the second gen ones all together

I've not done an auto to man swap but when I installed a 3800#SBC DD clutch in my pos 3rd gen Peter recomends using the first gen hyd slave/master cylinder. The 1st gen hyd. assembly can handle the higher pressure needed for the DD clutch.

Is the spacer (engine-to-bellhousing adaptor) on a 2nd gen the same between an auto and a stick?

The correct answer is " YES " . My 97 Cummins/Dodge parts book lists only one option and it states clearly that it is the same on both std and auto. As far as taking the trans cooler off just remove it and take out the nipple where the upper lines goes and install a plug. The fitting for the lower line on a std has only one nipple whereas on the auto it has two. Either replace it with the proper fitting or cap it off. Since it is a nipple thats kind of hard to do properly. Shadrach
