The truck is an '02 4X4 with NO mods. It has 84,000miles on it. The truck belongs to a older friend of mine. When you come up to a stop, you feel what seems to be the trans hunting between low and second. It DEFINATELY starts in second even with half throttle.

I checked and both the ECM and PCM show NO codes.

Do you think I should try to recalibrate the TPS?

Thanks, Chris

I recently heard of a TDR member that used to own a '99 Dodge/Cummins with an automatic... he had issues similar to this.

The transmission was starting out in 2nd gear and had no OD.

His PCM wasn't triggering the relay that provides power to the transmission.

The fix?

Hot wire the relay

(Or... replace the PCM)

This might not be your issue, but it rang a bell when I read the description.

You probably can put a voltage regulator on it and adjust your voltage on it.

Go to DTT Website and get the voltage regulator hope this helps it fixed mine. :D

First off, will it go into first when put there manually at a stop?

If so, your solenoid cluster in the trans needs to be changed. This is very common in the the 47RE.

Do not continue to drive the truck, you'll burn up that trans for sure.

Sounds like the governor solenoid and pressure transducer. When you come to a stop manually shift down to first then put back in drive. You should start in 1st gear. Replacement requires pan removal.

What he said...

Governor pressure solenoid and sensor about $200 at dealer. They bolt onto valve body, easy to change after pan removed, change filter while your at it.

Fishin guide, Yes the trans will go into low manually. Fortunately (I think?), He bought the extended warranty. I asked him if his batteries had been disconnected receintly but they hadn't. I was going to try a battery disconnect then recalibrate the TPS. I shuddered every time I took my truck to the dealer. Thanks for the info everyone!!

TPS calibration is not done by unhooking the batteries and stepping on the pedal. Might clear memory out of the ECM or PCM, but does nothing for the APPS.

Look on DTTs site. That is the proper way to calibrate the TPS/ APPS. Doing anything else is just trying to work around electrical noise. Get one of DTTs noise filters. All your problems are solved.

Well, except trying to hold 500HP on a stock trans... .
