I'm having a problem with my '95 Auto. When I take off from a dead stop before it shifts into 2nd at around 30 mph it totally disengages, almost like a "false" neutral. If I get on it good, either I don't notice it or it doesn't do it. It's always when I take off easy. I don't "let off" after I get going, just holding it steady but light. The truck has 138K miles on it. I had the trans serviced @40K miles ago and I replaced the TPS about 25K miles ago. I run empty and don't tow anything 98% of the time. Thanks for the help.

Check the front band adjustment. If it is loose it could case a flair up as you describe.

The trans is trying to shift.

Come on fellas! I need some help here! No dependable transmission man and I sure don't want to go to the stealer!

When your trans shifts to 2nd, it adds the front band to what is already holding. I think your front band it too loose or the band strut is missing.

It is easy on our trucks to check it.

Above the shift linkage is a stud that goes thru the case with a lock nut on it. That is the adjustment for the front band. You will need a 3/4 wrench for the lock nut. Loosen it, Turn the stud in till it is snug. the spec is 72 inch pounds. Then back it out 2 turns , get this as close as you can. If you counted the turns going in I bet it was more than 2. Don't forget to tighten the lock nut.

Go for a drive and let us know if it helped.

Alright, I adjusted the front band. It didn't seem out, but I followed the directions anyway. No change. I tried to pay a little more attention and I now think that it's happening between 2nd and 3rd. Is there another band adjustment? Thanks!
