Hey guys,

My 2002 Quadcab 4X4 Shortbed Automatic Trans won't shift in to top gear or lockup when it is cold. I live in N. Minnesota so that is a problem most of the year. The trans seems to shift totally normal after it is warmed up or when the weather is warm. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have only 38,000 miles on it and it is only a road runner never towed anything in it's life so I didn't expect any thing like this to happen yet. I began to notice the problem about 3,000 ago. I changed to Amsoil ATF fluid at 22,000 miles and put in a new ATF fluid filter at that time. Your help would be appreciated.

this is normal from what i have been told . mine has always been this way. i take it easy keep under 40mph and in a few miles it shifts out. if you run up the revs. it will shift out,but why push a cold engine. carl

CFowler, thanks for your info it makes sense that it needs to warm up before it will shift. I know I am that way so why not my truck.

d/c manual says od is locked out until trans temps reach a certain temperature. cant remember temp. mine has done this since new. now has 348000 kms.
