Anyone running a coolant filter?

I have a stock auto trans. , I am going to buy the git kit from banks. which is supposed to add 70 hp and 180 tq. the banks kit comes with tq lockup protection, the truck has 33000 miles on it, do you think I will be able to get another 30000 out of the stock transmission, the truck is a daily driver and if it pulls anything it is usually about 4000 lbs or less. The reason I am looking at the banks is because it has the tq lockup protection where as the edge ez does not. From what I have been told the transmissions starts to wear because when you add more power it causes the tq to slip while it is locking up. Is this correct. So if a box defuels the truck while the tq is locking up it should not cause premature wear correct. Also the transmission should not slip under normal driving should it???

This is some advice from one who has been there ( Banks,, slipping TQ, etc. ) Get your transmission fixed first ( I recommend DTT ), the performance with a stock engine and DTT transmission will be better than a Git kit and a stock transmission. I'm sure that you will later want more power ( the slippery slope ) and will not have to worry about the trannie. Do some more research and take a ride in some modded trucks and get some other opinions. I could have saved a bunch of money had I done so.

Good luck.

Fill out your truck profile. If you do not have gauges, this is the first item you should get. I put 32K on my 2001. 5 complete stock except for gauges and 4" exhaust. I then bought a larger 5th wheel and want an exhaust brake, so I got a complete DTT rebuild of my transmission, with Billet input and 3rd gear cage. While I was at it, I got DD1 Jammer Injectors and an EDGE Comp in EZ mode (no pump tap). I installed a BHAF and bought the Banks Exhaust brake because my Son is a dealer.

Driving the truck with the 89H torque converter and DTT towing transmission makes it a complete different vehicle. The rubber band effort between the go pedal and moving down the road is gone.

Generally Banks stuff is quite pricey for the horse power. BD sells a pressure lock that will do what Banks unit does. Price an EDGE EZ or Comp and pressure lock. However you will be back to fixing the transmission correctly in the end.

Call DTT at 866-504-4002 and talk to them, they are really great people to deal with.
