I just recently changed my '96 DCTD auto transmission filter and gasket. I now am leaking like a slug at most bolts there. The Dodge dealer said not to use any sealer with the "NEW" type gasket with rubber ridges and flanged bolts at $2. 00 a pop. Well, it leaks bad even though I torqued it to the "OLD" specs. With the old gasket, never a drip! It's over $10. 00 worth of transmission fluid down the drain evertime the pan comes off. Maybe it would make good fuel lube? When I take it off I think I'll stick the gasket to the pan with a good sealer and silcone to the aluminum housing. Any ideas? Does the new Mag-Hytec remove and seal any different when serviced? Thanks, Herb:confused:

I've only used the old type cork/metal gasket with no problem, is it still available? The Mag-Hytec seals with an o-ring and works very well. An even bigger advantage is that it has a drain plug. The Mag-Hytec also has better fluid cooling from the aluminum pan.

Cork gasket on DD MagHytek Trans. Pan

I just had a Double Deep MagHytek transmission pan put on my '97 3500 2WD and it didn't have an o-ring for a seal. It had, what looked like, a cork seal. I had some transmission upgrades done (89% TC, VB, ) at Huntington Beach Dodge and the guy said that was the best gasket to use. I thought the metal insert ones would be better, but I guess not. Anyways, no leaks, so far.

I am at my wits end with my transmission pan. I have gone through 3 gaskets and still had leaks. I chucked the gaskets and just used RTV sealant to no avail. Still having leaks:mad: I am hoping a MagHytec will fix the problem.

I found a neoprene gasket at Kregen's. No leaks. I've changed the ATF several times since I got it. I use the torque spec for the stock gasket. If it ever decides to leak I'll get another one just like it.

save the cork for wine bottles

neoprene is the only way yo go.

BTW Mag Hytec dif covers have the o ring seal, the only o ring on the transmission pan is the drain plug :)

What's Neopreme look like?

Hey Bob or Joe,

What does this neopreme look like? Is it a gasket with neopreme on it or is this a tube your using? Enlighten us and I'll probably follow! It's not a Dodge dealer item I bet! Thanks, Herb;)

i got mine from Bill Kondolay

but its probably avaliable at any Napa store.

Thin black neoprene gasket that sticks like a mother ;)

You can get the neoprene gasket at Napa. It comes with their "better" transmission gasket kit (~$12). The cork gasket is included with their "standard" kit (~$7).

Hello H. C. ,

Did you just use the "NEW HARD GASKET" from Da Dodge dealer? My cork never leaked! Did they also hold you up and sell you the new bolts to make it all the best? See you at the NAPA store! Herb;)

Herb,

I used a NAPA filter kit, they never asked whether I wanted the good neporene or the cork they just gave me the kit with the cork. They must have assumed I'm cheap:D
