FYI,

Just had my transmission upgraded with DTT kit a couple of months ago (10K miles) and loved the results.

This is a note to all of you considering the upgrade: If you are running over 350 hp or so (see sig for mods) I would recommend that you also have Bill's billet input shaft installed while the transmission is apart.

I was in a funeral procession yesterday (therefor taking it easy) and just as the truck shifted into 2nd I heard a loud pop and no power to the rear wheels. I coasted to the side of the road, shifted into reverse, 1, 2, then drive again to no avail. I grabbed the transfer case shifter and stuffed it into 4x and still nothing. Drug the truck down to Baker's Diesel in Ogden, Utah who performed the DTT upgrade and found that I had stripped all the splines off the input shaft. Bill is air freighting his billet shaft to me but no truck until Monday or Tuesday. Sucks to be me, now I have to ride my Harley all weekend!

The front hubs that the input shaft is pressed into is prone to cracking. Even on stock trucks.

I'm on my third hub already, but haven't coughed up the money to get the good stuff from Bill.

It's one of those problems that happens a lot, but for some reason not many people talk about it.

Chris, are you talking about the Billet hub that Bill make for the 5 clutch or am I confused?

Jim

P. S. Watched your video, I think you have enough fuel:D

Chris is right on the money,Im glad my billet hub is on the way, since im over 350 hp,and plan to add more. thanks for the heads up Kpenright. Since the 2000 and newer trucks shift locked to lock-3-4 shift WOT ,this might be more of a problem with those trucks when they are stock or lightly bombed.

Sorry to hear you're going without a truck for a few days, and have to tough it out on the Harley... :-laf

hmmmmm

Does this mean that shifting locked to locked is a bad thing? Imagine that. Its what we have been told all along.

Can't wait to finish my DTT upgrades.

JFulmer,

The part you have in your transmission is a billet piston which helps with the 5 clutch upgrade. That's different than the billet shafts and hub.

Bill's coming out with new stuff all the time. Wait'll you see what's next. :)

Thanks for the fueling compliment. I actually had the pump turned down a bit for the event. 51 psi of boost couldn't clear the smoke any, so I'll put on twins and a better cam in before cranking the fuel to it. :)

Input shaft

Sorry, I didn't have a chance to get on-line the past couple of days.

Jayson at Baker's got the transmission out on Friday and all of the splines on the input shaft are sheared off. Bill K. and Stefan were playing on Friday (good for them!) so they didn't get their new billet piece air freighted until Monday morning. Should have it today and in by this evening.

The funny part about it is that I just got done (2 weeks ago) pulling an 8000 lb trailer from northern Utah down to Lake Powell filled with coolers, ice, beer, gear, etc at 75 to 80 mph up and down steep grades and the transmission never missed a beat, temps stayed normal - now here I am in a funeral procession just puttering and POW! Thank God it didn't happen on the way to Powell!

Lake Powell question

Kevin, How low is the water level? I have family taking a houseboat cruise the middle of next month.

I heard the water level is way down.

Thanks,

Bob

Powell

We went out of Bullfrog with a 60 footer and 3 ski boats in tow and went clear down past Dangling Rope to the Escalante (Balanced Rock area) then worked our way back during the week. Water was down approximately 56 ft from high water mark according to marina information.

I don't know if you are going out of Wahweap, Bullfrog or Hall's but my advice is stay in the middle of the channel and watch the buoys. Lots of rocks sticking up and just below the surface if you try to cut corners. Water temps were starting into the low 70's so the waterskiing was still a little chilly in the morning but very refreshing mid day in the hot sun! Fishing was also pretty good with good luck on strippers and small mouth, even a few catfish on night lines out the back of the houseboat.

Have a great trip and watch out for rocks!
