auto transmission, won't shift

My brother is looking to join the diesel ranks and we looked at a 97 2500 4x4 today. The only problem is the transmission doesn,t want to shift into drive under full throttle, if you back off the pedal just a little bit it will go ahead and shift, and it shifts fine in normal driving. The owner said it has been that way since he has owned the truck, and that he has had the transmission serviced and the shop said everything looked good in the pan and it was working fine. Is this BS or what? We only drove it probably 10 miles or so and it only acted up under full throttle. Could it be a convertor problem? Please help.

BS yes. I had a couple of similer problems like that and it was 2 different things. First get your TPS checked, if thats not it then look in to a shift kit. When mine wouldnt shift I had to "feather" the peddel to get it to switch gears, then I took it to Ammco and they put a new shift kit in and it worked great after that.

You might try adjusting the kick down cable a little longer and see if that helps.
