Monitoring multiple parameters

Anybody using the sport comp series and have it crap out? mine is about 18 months old and the needle is all over the place but usually pegged when driving and then drooping down to about 200 when idiling. I know the engine aint running at 1600+ at 60 mph down hill especially sine it aint blown up yet. I dont know if its the thermocouple or the gauge and since the thermocouple is about 50 bucks I dont want to get a new one to find out I need a new gauge:mad:

I had the same problem a couple years ago with a 2653 gauge but don't remember the style. From the beginning the needle would jump all over when I started the truck. Later it would stick at some point and not move at all for a while then jump to about where I thought should be. Then it would work fine until I shut the truck off and it would do the same thing all over again. Then it would not move at all so I called Autometer and due to the age (out of warranty) they would look at it but at a cost and then quote me on cost to fix it. I figured that it was mine so I took it apart and found that the torque motor that drives the needle had basically fallen apart. I ended buying a new gauge and have had no problems, works better than the first one ever did. They must have upgraded the design. Racers are supposed to use these, I guess they get replaced too frequently due to crashes to make any difference if they fail due to normal wear and tear.

I have been using my Autometer sport comp pyro for 5 years with no issues, calibration checked prior to install and again 2 years ago when the gauges were out for the A/C coil and heater core replacement.

$50. 00 for a new pyro does seem a little steep, as I paid $68. 00 for the whole gauge kit (new). I think I would just replace the whole thing with a new one myself and be done with it.

im on my second one on dipricol not impressed with them. or it could just be my luck. pull the thermocoupler and clean it off double check all contacts and enure your getting good contact. I would say if you could narrow down if its the gauge or thermo just buy that. but im a cheap person.

I have the phantom series gauge and had one die two years after i installed it. I looked in the back of the gauge and saw a burnt wire. So if you have time check the wires inside the gauge. My replacement one has started to act up again.

I've had three Autometert trans temp gauges two boost gauges and just now my second pyro. Yes I am a slow learner. Autometers solution was to replace them, and wouldn't even cut me a deal. I just called Geno's and ordered a set of pricols. I hope I have better luck with them.

My SportComp pyro was on my truck when I bought it and I noticed that when the headlights were on it acted erratically, jumping all over the place. If I tapped the glass it would settle down. With the lights off it worked great. I found out that that the power was fed from the headlight switch so I moved it to a dedicated fused key-on power supply and it cured the problems. Check your power and make sure you have a good clean ground.
