Does anyone make the larger fuel tank for the 1st gen trucks that goes in the stock location? I have heard of 50 gallon or so tanks for the 2nd gen trucks, but wondered if they made them for the first gen trucks? I know of a manufacturer that makes aux tanks that mount behind the rear end, but trying to stay away from that because of lack of space for spare tire. Ideas Anyone???????

There was a duscussion last week about putting a ramcharger tank under the back of the bed. They hold around 30 gallons I guess.

Would have to switch between the two though and add a second filler.

As far as the stock location might have to get a shop to make you one to your specs.

Could do that, but trying to stay away from doing that, there is a company from oregon that makes 45 gallon rear tanks for our 1st gen trucks. I was hoping to find someone that either knew of or had one of those larger tanks in their trucks. Wondering if a Wrecker/Tow Truck repair facility might have a catalog that might have something like this in there????

When I got my truck a few years ago the previous owner had added a transfer-flo tank where the spare used to sit. It is hooked up via a switch, and the gauge works for either tank. The P/O also installed the spare tire in the bed against the front behind the cab. It works real good, and I like the added range I get from the extra tank.

I currently have a 50 gallon transfer tank in the bed with a tool box intregated into it. My problem lies when I switch the truck on over to a crew cab with a short bed, then I wouldn't have a lot of space to work with. But I guess I can put it back into the smaller bed, and not have much room in there. But hey, I will have 4 REAL DOORS... . LMAO!

http://www.aerotanks.com/

They used to make one for the first gens that was 55 or 60 gallons, not sure if they could make one for you now or not, it doesn't show it on their website, it fit where the stock tank is and up over the driveshaft in the rear.

I had looked into getting one a couple years ago but when I searched for info it sounded like the quality of their tanks wasn't that great so I passed on it at that time.

Good Luck,

Caleb

while I am thinking about it, who is the company that makes the rear auxillary tank that is up in Oregon for our 1gen trucks? Can't remember the name, but saw some from them before as well.

Tank for rear

I have the 45 gallon tank in my Cummins Ramcharger, actually I can fill it with diesel some 50 gallons, here is the info

fuel tank in stock loaction/ after rear axle

talked to Aero Tanks, and they do still make a 60 gallon tank that goes in the stock location on the CTD trucks. It is 670. 00 plus taxes picked up from the manufacturer in Southern CA. This is what I am really after, and would be a nice addition to the truck for cruising long distances!! I also talked with Northwest Metal Products, and their tank takes the place of the spare tire, but they tell me that it won't fit with a short bed configuration at all. I did get some dimensions of their tank, and am very currious if i could get it to fit in there. If there is enough room, a ramcharger tank would be very cool to have on it, because of the larger fuel capicity it has!! So if I do the math, 60 gallon in the stock location, and the 45(ramcharger style) would be 105 gallons of fuel, and a range of 2100 miles @20mpg, and if I decide to have the transfer tank in the bed for long trips, then add 50 more to that, then that would be 155 gallons, for a range of 3100 miles @ 20mpg... am I getting a little crazy?... . LOL :--) :-laf :-laf

You're going to have to install ANOTHER tank to take care of the fact that you won't be getting out for 2100 miles!!

Do I need to elaborate?? :-laf

Both points well taken... . lol! I was just trying to make this thing worthy of an Alaskin Trip, and didn't want to buy fuel by the liter if you know what I mean, no pun intended for our Canadian buddies. Besides that, I have gotten bad fuel before at these places that are out in the middle of nowhere, and paid the price too.

If you go with the Aerotank replacement keep us informed on how the install is and how the tank looks quality wise. This is what I really want but couldn't find a first genner with one of them that would give a thumbs up to one.

Thanks,

Caleb

will do, this will be something that will be bought sometime around the first of the year.
