2012 2500 4x4 mileage average?

simple question

There are a couple of ground studs on the driver side frame. I used one by the rear tire for my ViAir.

My winch is grounded to the engine block on the intake.

What size ViAir? 14 seems small for a hard mount compressor.

Awsome lights! Nothing wrong with using a body fastener, common grounding point. Anything that draws current, like the compressor, pickup ground on one of the compressor mounting bracket bolts.

I'm repairing tir blowout damage and servicing brakes on my RV next week, so should be doing compressor on two weeks. Gonna mount an air pressure gauge in the cab and at the comptessor.

Send pics.

Cheers, Ron
10-4 re: 'body fastener. Since I'll run 12/2 stranded Romex, think I'll terminate the ground at a battery lug, considering device uses about 20A. Thanks.

This is pretty cool info, you may be able to find info like this on your tuck. My truck doesn't have the OEM optional 22 gal aux tank, so I'm likely going to use that ground that's rated a 50 amps.

I haven't even designed the layout on min yet, but I have lots of options under my tow body.:D

12/2 or 14/2? You've mentioned both. 20A should be 12ga. I didn't think you could get stranded 12/2 Romex.

Unless you're running UF Romex I would think about something other than Romex. It's not wet/outdoor rated.

I used stranded 10ga THHN in wire loom for my compressor. Its outdoor rated, and fuel/oil resistant. I pulled the ground locally from the lug. Plenty of ampacity in the chassis grounds for a compressor.

Yes Sir! I bought a 100 ft roll of 10ga stranded at Home Depot when doing electrical on my Lil Red Express Truck. On straight runs under the truck, I have 1/2 conduit and a bender. Max protection and WAY overkill for electric AND air lines.

I'm thinking about installing my air quick connects on the inside of either of my storage compartments to keep them clean. Where did/are you installing your's? PICs are always good!

Hey Wiredawg; Hope you'e all healed up for Xgiving.

I just wired my Aux LED Backup lights to SW#1, easy peezee using a local bolt for ground. Now I've mounted a Viair compressor & ready to run some 14/2 stranded. My question is: I'd rather use a "cleaner" ground than body bolts, etc., so is there a grd connection up front with the aux switches? Did you tie grounds back to the battery lugs? Thanks.View attachment 117104 View attachment 117105

Great looking lights, WalterJ. Any chance you could post a daytime photo of a side profile? It looks like they stay tucked under the bumper fairly well. What brand lights are they? I'm contemplating something like that or a recessed/flush mount in the bumper. What I like about your setup is they don't seem to shine directly into your eyes if you're standing behind the truck and working on something.

Kind of reviving an old thread....

I bought my '18 2500 as a used truck and the up-fitter wiring kit was not with the truck, unfortunately. The truck has the switches and whatnot, just no wiring kit.

I hate to buy the kit for roughly $50 just to get the fancy wire and spade connector to go into the terminal block under the hood - is that terminal block compatible with a standard size spade connector or is it proprietary?

Anyone know if the dash switches are direct wired to the BCM or if they are canbus? I'd like to daisy off my dash exhaust brake switch and put a tiny micro switch on the end of my shifter knob like old school tow/haul mode. That way I can change the modes without reaching down passed the console/drinks to get to the button. Not to mention taking my eyes off the road long enough to see which button it is.

Pretty sure they're CANBUS since you can control their functionality through the EVIC...

I can't turn any of my switches on from evic. All I can do is setup the aux switches. Latched, momentary, battery or keyed, etc. The evic is canbus, but that doesn't mean the dash switches are. They could have a direct connection to the BCM. Evic is telling the BCM what you want done with the aux switch settings.

That's a good point - I was making the assumption that since I could control the mode of the switches through EVIC, that meant it was all tied into the CANBUS.

I can look tomorrow if you dont figure it out sooner.

They are pretty special lugs on the end of the wiring.

Physically the larger blades appear to be a close width and thickness. The tab on the end is longer on the Mopar kit.

They also have a special weather boot crimped on then and overall appear to sit down much deeper.

Here are some pics.
