Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) auxillary fuel connection

Has anybody connected their in bed fuel tank supply line to the auxillary fuel connenection on top of the tank cannister, instead of the fuel fill pipe valve that comes w/ the auxillary tank ( I have an RDS tank)

Why would you want to? Routing auxilliary fuel in through the vent tube on the fuel tank fill line has worked great for me and others for probably millions of miles.

I think you will find it is designed to provide a fuel source for an add on unit such as a gen set. If you tried to fill through it I don't know if it would work even assuming that you installed a check valve and such. I think you would have to take the fuel module apart and shorten the internal line that is attached to the port.

I think the fuel filler neck method is a lot more tried and true. You do NOT want a fuel spill in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Harvey, Perhaps you did not understand, I did not say the VENT tube, I asked about the aux fuel conn on the cannister. Which evidentlly is for an external supply, Thanks, Rick

I understood precisely what you meant. I pointed out the fact that others have successfully used the easily accessed and completely safe and reliable vent tube for many years and asked why would you want to use the top of the tank fitting. Mike Wilson provided a good explanation why it would be a bad idea to use the fuel tank connection.

Thanks Harvey, You are quite right as usual, I failed to realize it is a supply pick-up connection, not a fill tube, Anyway I took my bed off and pulled the cannister out as I kept getting my pre-filter clogged at the lift pump, so I dropped my tank, removed the cannister filter, cleaned the tank( it had a lot of what may have been black algae ) added a Racor R45T spin on filter w/ clear water seperator bowl between the tank pick-up and the pre-filter mounted to the the frame for easy access,( boxed the frame while I had the bed off) and picked up 2 MPG !!! BLESS THE TDR !!!

you CAN use the aux port on the tank to FILL! I did and it worked fine. gravity fed thru a 10 micron filter with a shutoff solenoid and had no issues.

What type of solenoid system ?

It was a fuel tank selector valve from a late 70's Chevy P/U
