Does anyone out there know of a source to buy the locking washer that fits between the two nuts that hold the drum/hub to the axle tube? Also I have a recurring problem with the e-brake cables rusting/freezing up. I have replaced these twice in the last two years. Is there a mfg. of cables that work like the originals did? Any help to these problems would be greatly appreciated. the axle I am asking about is the Spicer 70 model with 3x12 brakes.

Regarding axle nut locking washer - Here is the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area NAPA does not have nor does Advanced Auto. Can anyone give any additional help?

Thanks

1993 Dodge Diesel

Pep Boys, etc probably have it too.

I believe its a just a rounded 6 pt 2-9/16" socket.

Who have you been buying the cables from?

I was considering using Bendix parts when I do my brake job (probably this week).

Can't speak for anything except the 93s that I have. They don't have double nuts. These and the current application uses a nylock nut that is available from NAPA. It requires a small wedge to 'double lock' the nut in place. I have not had any trouble with mine. I have had the double nut type to give trouble. I know there is some difference of opinion on the subject. You might have to ask for the parts for a Ford. They are the same as Dodge if the axle is DANA. Seems that lots of folks don't know that Dodge has been making truck longer that 94 up.

Sounds like somebody converted yours to the same thing a D60 front has. Dan at quad4x4 sells the parts for that on his site.

I bet if you look under front axle for say an 85 chevy K30 SRW you will find the parts you need at the parts store.

I am resurrecting an old thread.

I see that alot of guys gave advice on the nut etc, but has anyone found a source for just the washer.

I did find "everything" at advance auto parts but not seperately.

They only sold an axle nut kit. That included everything.

The 2 nuts and the washer. The cost was around $50.

Seems steep when all I really need is the lock washer.

Thanks guys... .

P. S.

The old girl is moving along one side is pretty well buttoned up with a new kingpins, brakes, rotors, axle joints and seals.

What's so special about this washer? Can someone post a pic?

Possibly available thru someplace like McMaster-Carr????

Washer?

Where is there a washer? Between two nuts? What to nuts..... ?  Only see two nuts on the Fords. Occasionally a time or two at SOP :-laf

The NAPA cables are plastic sleeved with a plastic coated cable. They operate like on ball bearings.

rlyons- Between Nelsonville and Athens, grew up in The Plains.

Greenleaf-2 nuts, Fords, surely you jest... . Just one nut behind the wheel here

The two nuts on the front axle, lock washer that is sandwiched between said nuts.

JLeonard- It is a heavy spider washer.

Has 11 tabs sticking out and one that sticks in and engages the groove in spindle.

You tighten the inner nut, place the washer between them, then put the other nut on and torque it down.

Then you bend on tab up onto the flat of the outside nut and one tab down onto the tab of the inside nut.

I found them online but local parts places just look at you funny.

It would be easy if we knew a part number for something that would work.

I looked up the GM part in this thread and didn't find a nylock nut, only "Ford Style" lock nuts.

Quad 4x4 shows a picture but with no prices.
