I have come a cross a set of 3rd Gen AAM axles that I have purchased and want to install them in my '00 2500. The axles are out of a 3500 SRW truck, have disc brakes front and rear (included) and also has all the steering parts still attached to the front axle. I have a few reasons why I am wanting to doing this...

1. )These axles have ~100k miles less on them than my truck currently has

2. )My hubs are about gone, and the 3rd gen ones are still good.

3. )Steering is shot on my setup, but still good on the 3rd gen stuff

4. )I run 35" tires, and would like lower gears than the 3:55s, but dont want to go to 4:10, these 3rd gen axles are 3:72, which I think will be perfect.

5. )Get rear discs instead of drums.

6. )Front axle is a High-Pinion, which will improve my driveline with my 5" lift.

7. )Ever since I blew up my spider gears in the D80, it just hasnt been the same even though I rebuilt it

8. )Frees up my D60 and D80 for an offroad project I am contemplating.

My question is, has anyone done this, and is there any thing I will need to change? I heard that I may need to make some changes to run rear discs due to me having drums right now, is that true? Also, would a 3rd gen steering box work on my 2nd gen? I am getting this along with the purchase as well. Lastly, anyone know what the measurment is from eye to eye on the 3rd gen and 2nd gen leaf spring is? Getting a set of these as well, and if they fit, I may just put some newer springs on it while I am at it, as they are still bolted to the axles.

Thanks guys! :D
