I had that style on my old Chevy(73) I was also able to break it... ... ... .
That style will not work on our truck because of all the bracketry being in the way. The old leaf sprung axles were much easier to modify and up grade. I have also used cables as a truss,much simpler and lighter but again with the brackets in the way... ..... not practicle.
