Going to do my balljoints and at the same time do my front axle U-joints. What U-joint is the best? Thinking of going with a non greasable as I read of some problems with the greasable spicer not getting grease to 1/2 of the joint. Advice or opinions? Thanks.

In our shop, we recommend the AAM U-Joint that is the standard joint. We have seen some "Greasable" joints that don't last as long.

Go Greasable I used a highy recommended joint by people here on the TDR and they last 1 year went with a Greasable it still going strong btw its a precision Greasable... . no offense to anyone.....

I've had good luck with Precision.

I use greaseable here in New England with snow, salt & slush.

Before I install them I run a wire thru the cross to make sure it is completely drilled thru, saw 1 that was not.

I have owned a 1990 CTD 4x4 since new and get many years out of them if greased regularly.

The advantage to the first gen is the locking hub which allows you to rotate the joint to find the grease fitting.

The newer trucks need to be rolled to line up the grease fitting which I suspect is why many seldom grease or not at all.

If you choose non greasable joints fill the caps with quality grease so that it squishes out when pressed together.

I replaced my rear U joints in April of this year with joints from Quad 4x4. If you go to their site and scroll down to click on "Dodge Drive Shafts" there is a lot of info on U joints. They explain the problems with the aam joints slinging the grease out of the caps. Two of the three joints on my rear axle were slinging grease with 55k miles on the truck.

I called them before ordering my joints and they were very helpful over the phone. When I recieved the U joints it was easy to tell the difference in the quality of the cap design. I have about 7k miles on the new joints with no issues.

I haven't done anything with the front U joints yet.

Hope this helps

I've generally had good luck with Precision greaseables. I think it goes without saying, but you should grease a greaseable joint until grease is clearly visible oozing from all 4 caps.
