BFT-Prettiest truck I ever saw

Trailersaver Air Fifth Wheel

Anyone using this hitch in their shortbed? I just traded my long bed for a short bed and am trying to reuse my hitch. Thanks. JR (P. S. I know all about sliders and short beds, that's not my question here, Thanks)

It should work but you wont be able to manuver tight turns, I would get the slider. Its too bad because its a nice hitch. Mine is the flat bed version and I love it.

Another thing to remember is the hitch has a few inches of adjustability in how the hitch mounts to the base. My laredo has an extended hitch. With that and the companion mounted full aft, I think that you would have to make a turn in excess of 70 degrees to hit the cab in my uncles mega cab. Haven't done it yet, but we put a lot of thought into it because we often go camping together and tow more than one toy there, and I have a topper I can throw on.

I have an extension on the pinbox and can turn in excess of 90* before the nose of the 5'ver contacts the window of by '01 shortbed. The B&W Companion is a great product!

That is the exact set up I have on my SB. Our new 32' Gulfstream has the extended pin and the B & W is assembled in the very back position. With that said I have no trouble turning the truck and trailer. I am pretty sure I can go past 90 degrees, although we have not been put in that position yet.

Thanks Guys, I already had the companion set up as far back as it would go, it sets the pin back about 7" from the hole I'm going to cut, that's actually a couple inches behind the axle so I'm gonna go for it. JR

I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner. I have just returned from May Madness. Its not a good idea to have your pin sitting rear of the axle. My neighbor had to add air bags because the installer set the pin aft of the axle by about an inch. The ideal position is about an 1" to 1-1/2" forward of the axle, to shift some of the weight to the front axle, for better stability. He even had a long bed, so I don't know why they set it aft. It also helps in keeping the truck as level as possible, so the front doesn't have the "sit in the air look".
