engine knock was the last straw I called a freind to get me with his duramax but thats not the point its deeper than what you drive. in two days he was there 991mi with his trailer so when some one said the duramax had to rescue the cummins I said "he did 2000mi in 48hrs because I needed help who can you call to do that for you?" that shuts them up. I would do the same fore him no questions period.

the short block from cummins would have been $4150.

the local WV shop quoted a good used short block 110Kmi for $1000

so the call was made.

not only did we arive on sunday and wanted to drop the trailer and not bother brian (owner, lives next to his shop) but he came out and wanted to diagnose the knock before we could leave and get some rest. we worked on the truck until midnight. wile cheaking comp ect. we were moving to reposition it on the lift at 1100rpm #6 rod came thru the starter side. problem found!

short block $800

the trans has needed rebult since I first met brian 3 years ago sooo... ...

tunrite triple disc converter $1100 w/core

tonys reinforced flywheel $150 excange

ats billet input shaft $700

seals clutches ect $150

trans mount $20

set tolerances tight (race only)

converters= you get what you pay for wow I like the triple.

brian let me use his shop on nightshift and tools and all no charge. the whole thing took all week 40+ hrs and $3000 so there really is not much question why we brought the truck that far what would you do?

I am happy with it over all. the dv's are wow! pinched off the waste gate and the truck puts out 50lbs boost! my goal is close (500hp) smoke is heavy and a lot freight train like.

I wleded the rear and took it to the drag strip 3rd run launced @ 10lbs (no spin) and did a 9. 53 in the 1/8 mile (no 1/4mil in WV)

brian run a 7. 96 in a 24v ex longbd 4x4 water cooled single charger edge ect.

this world needs more men like this he is a true freind.

thanks to Vannest Performance I am up and better than ever!!!!!!

Glad you're back in running order DJ. Sounds like a lot of work but it could have been a lot more expensive. You should be good for a long time now.

So the thing chucked a rod right thru the block? Any idea what caused the rod to fail?

the head gasket was changed twice in MS and still was getting coolant in the oil I tried to change the oil often but had to drive to work or loose my job. around two months of off and on coolant contamination took out the turbo first then the vacume pump these are sighns that i should have seen but was in denial. when I tore it down #6 was scored heavy I belive that the piston cooler was cloged from some of the babbet that scaled of the bering all the berrings were to the copper. #6 was worse then the rest and hammered on the crank enough to strech the bolts and then they or one loosened and the cap came off and then... ... ..... bang! the problem was found. broken cam and all I will get the pics develobed to day.

Man! After all the misery you've been through recently it must be gratifying to have found the actual problem! Bummer about the motor but at least you're back in business now :)
