Looking for aftermarket backup detector that warns me of something unseen by me and my mirrors. Just had a lady pull up behind me in a dark parking lot after I came to a stop and started backing into a unloading stall and she must have been close enough that even her headlights did not catch my attention let alone see the low slung profile of her Honda and as I slowly backup I hear this noise and the jolt. I still can not see anything in my mirrors and wondering what it could be. Jumped out and was shocked to see this car. Drop hitch dented top of her bumper pretting good. Without it I probably would have done the grill and hood. She could not find the horn button to warn me. I need my own warning system. Next time it could be a person. 4x4 truck height creates some of the issue here for sure.

That last one uses an infrared beam. They are running a special on them right now as of 11/9/2004

Thanks John for those sources. Must sort out comparable differences of infrared and other methods and costs. Will look for any TDR member opinions on that. That infrared unit for 44. 99 seems pretty reasonable but some of the others were too.

A guy I know has an Expedition that raised up about 2 feet (big a## truck). He was backing out of a parking spot, didn't know he had run over some lady until he completely cleared her and she was laying on her back in the parking space. Fortunately she cleared the tires and axles and just had bumps and bruises.
