Competition Tulelake CA. Pulls Sept 9

Competition Torque Converter Stall Speed

I should have just packed up and left when I seen Justin Bowling break about 40 feet into it at Lanesville, Indiana tonight. Talk about a good TACKY Indiana track.

Even trucks with all terrains were having trouble.

Justin Bowling broke the output shaft on his nv5600.

Well ole' dumb. as. s here comes out hard as usual in the open class and I end up taking out the rear drive shaft (both pieces), exhaust system, transfer case yoke, u joint, carrier bearing and who knows what else.

The positive of the whole thing is that I got to drive home.

Last hook of the year for me. Next year its a trailer queen! :-laf

Tomorrow I'll have to get some pictures up so J. D. can give me his opinion on the whole thing! :-laf

Thanks to Jesse, Bryan, Bill, Darrell, Chris and Wayne for lending a hand in getting me going again.

Gene... . Your right about these tires... they are the product of Satan.

Justin,in my experiances if you listen to Gene in any way something bad is going to happen to you. It may be good advice but your going to have soomething bad happen. You think the tires may be a product of satan???????I think Gene himself is satan so I guess you would be correct.

Congrats Justin! :-laf

I pulled in Dickson TN Thursday night 8200 street diesel..... one of 3 to get out the gate. Pull off got me 3rd as both others were auto's and it was a TACKY track. :rolleyes:

Outlaw class Mike Rhodes showed up with his one of his friends..... I thought what the heck it pays 3 spots... . I know Mike will kick my butt... ...

Maybe almost 100 feet..... BAM!!!... . rear yoke :{

Passed one up for $35 on Ebay last month... . payed $165 for the only one I could find yesterday :{ :{ :{ :{ :{

Oh well it was fixed yesterday and I'm hauling a trailer to Stanford tonight for a friend. :D

That sucks Justin! But it could always be worse. At least you still got home under your own power! Hope you get it back together soon!

I was wondering... I see this alot in the videos... normal for sparks from the clutch? How does it make sparks?

Yeah that track looks hard. We had a pull in Blackfoot the other weekend and the track was almost like that. 2 or 3 stockish Suburbans pulled and they were lifting the front end off the ground!

What size yoke is that anyway?? Good ole duck tape. Keep a plastic cup with you too. Duck tape the plastic cup over it. If your real good you could tape a coffee can under it and stop ever so often and pour the coffee can back into the case.

What was the finish order?

My pull last night sucked too. No breaky, but donated $40 because of dummy me. Truck wouldn't get out of first gear. 4100RPM at 3/4 throttle was kind of scary. Good news is charger lit easier, and the lockup switch worked. I have to get some pictures I think it will take the cake for haybagging it. I tiewrapped the toggle switch to the auot shifter. I think it is time for full manual VB with a floor mounted ratched shifter.

Hey Tom thanks for jumpin in the thread on the DMAX page. I know it is a GM page, and I expect them to be GM fans, but when they are flat out wrong about certain things I have to try to correct them.

Dan,

I think Luke Thomas was 1st. The red Duramax 2nd (the one that pulls street stock DHRA dually).

Bryan Prewitt 3rd.

Tom,

Other than going to a one piece driveshaft there really isnt much to upgrade.

I think I will probably stay with a 2 piece though.

Nate,

Yeah some sparks are normal from the clutches. They just get hot while your slipping them intentionally. In the video there are some sparks from the shaft and joint kicking loose.

Dang, alot junk getting broke last night in IN! North, South, middle... . nobody was safe. Except for Z and his one gear wonder!

I am guessing last night would have been the night to have tried to lauch it in second. I have one decent pull at tipton and it was the first pull on the truck, got like 4th or something. Last two times have not been good to me. Oh well, my wife saw a sweet musclecar today, and said maybe we should try dragracing. I just laughed. I didn't dare say we could start doing that with the truck if she wanted too.

Just curious about the broken yoke pic.

It almost looks like some corrosion on the surface of the breakage. Could it have already been cracked before the pull? Or is that just grease or something on the surface. .

Bummer about the break anyways. Also, the coffee can duct taped under the case is a great idea. .

Looks like grease, you may have to taste it to figure it out Justin. What did you expect shortshift from a guy that tie wrapped a toggle switch on his shifter for a lock up switch, uses an extension cord from walmart for his kill switch, strains transmission fluid through a filter and reuses it when I do a convertor change or VB modification. Somethings I am extremely cheap on, others I spare no expense. LOL Well most things I am extremely cheap on.
