Looking to put a Banks Power system on my 3500, I don't want to sacrafice ANY reliability. Like to hear from members with Banks kits and what there REAL benifit turned out after installation.

Also what would just a better exhaust do for my trucks performance?

I will be hauling a 33 foot travel Trailer 9000# with my truck.

Thanks

Curt

Welcome to the TDR! I do not use Banks Stuff, I choose to use other venders for upgrades as I feel the price and service of Banks isnt up to "par". There are other members that do use Banks and im sure they can help you out! Again Welcome!

CGoyette,

You happened along with that question at a bad time. The guys have been discussing Banks in a couple of other threads, and it was nasty. Personally, I don't buy Banks products because I'm cheap and the Banks products aren't.

Sky - at least you could be subtle and suggest a few alternative products :)

Stick around CGoyette, and you'll learn what to use on your truck.

Welcome aboard! Please give us a little more info so we can properly steer you in the right direction. (at least what we consider that to be) What year is your truck?

Well the way I read it is that he wants to know about Banks specificly. If "I" were CGoyette I would get a set of Boost/EGT guages then get a Edge EZ. If he does some towing then get a 4" exhaust. Then if you want more after that then, then, then... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . :D

The nice thing about going with other brands is you can save alot more money and get better results. You can get an Edge EZ, 4" exhaust and a K&N for less then a power pack, and its easier to install Same results and ALOT less money. Best bet is to look at members signatures and get an idea of what most people have. It will be clear when you see more members with a ceratin item that its obviously a popular thing. Or, just ask.

This Forum has a tendency to be anti-Banks, primarily because of alleged customer service issues and price. With that being said, be it also known that everything you read here should be taken as advice, not law and most certainly with a lick of salt!!:D:D

ALL that in mind, I don't really think the Banks stuff is all that overpriced, when you start adding it all up. You're getting a product that is engineered to run as a complete system instead of mixing and matching. (I will most doubtedly catch some flames for this. ) I have the complete power pak on my 12v, have been happy with it and noticed a definite increase in top end power and overall acceleration immediately. However, the Banks alone isn't gonna do a thing unless you upgrade your transmission to handle the newfound torque and HP. And with that, we turn to our good friend Bill at DTT. That has been (without doubt) the best thing I've done yet to the truck. I will caution about 24v though (I assume based on your limited sig you have one) that I know of people who've been dissapointed with the 24v kit. I think you should consider looking at Diesel Dynamics and explore all your options first. And TEST DRIVE apples trucks. Don't base your decision on driving someone elses truck with mods you don't and never will have. Good Luck and be warned- the BOMB is an incurable sickness!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Not for Nuthing But,

The first mod was Installing a Powerpack system from Bank's (1900$?) Which is the 4" exhaust (Turbo outlet TO the Tip) A K&N a Fueling box (Otto Mind) and Dyna Funked Guages (Those Particular guages did not suit MY needs) and depending on the year (pre 2001) came with a larger Turbo EXHAUST housing for the HX turbos and the HIGH~Ram intake. Seat of the pants was a big improvement as well as the drivability took me by suprise even more so than the performance factor which at the time was my gig. (There goes that theory  right out the 'ol window ) beware tho That mod alone will SCHRED an auto trans ... . Or so Ive heard anyways from a friend  :p over all I think the technical service department was helpful as I had a problem with my EGT guage (Wire pin in the 2~pin connector wasn't making sufficient contact come to find out and we diag'd it over the phone with an ohm meeter and coffee. ) All~in~all fairness there's a million products out there and do some reading on the internet first then ask a few Questions on here and make a decision that suits YOUR OWN NEEDS and or preferences. hope this helps ??

I have a 1999. I am thinking I just want to upgrade the exhaust and air intake and keep my 100000 mile warranty. The exhaust at 4 inch and intake should drop my EGT's by 50-100 degrees and that helps longevity. The air intake should give me better turbo responce time and help to increase MPG.

I have 6000 miles on the truck and its seen the light of day for about a 2 months... it gets run about every 2 weeks in storage while I am in Japan... . but I will be home for a month in 3 weeks and then next spring for good when I retire. :D :D

Before you buy, try to find some guys around you with similar mods to what you are wanting. I too was considering a banks power pack when i first found out about the TDR. Mostly because that was the only company I knew about making stuff for the cummins. After joining here, i have learned alot. I met some guys near me who talked me into going another direction, and i am very happy with my set up. About a month back, i was witness to the instalation of the new edge comp box on an otherwise stock automatic truck. It was very very impressive. I would definitely look at it. I second the comment from an earlier reply. the best thing you can do for your truck is upgrade the trans. From my sig you will see i don't have an auto, but i have driven them, and the difference is pretty amazing.

CGoyete,

Buy a Edge EZ- 10 min install the first time... . Then you can remove in TWO min. You will Love the Difference It adds ZIP, Increases mileage and The added boost will keep EGT's in check. You will have less dealer/warranty issues going this route, The truck will run perfect. Then if you want to do more 4" Exhaust and Trans upgrades if its an auto. YOU Will be pleased with the Edge EZ and they give 60 day money Back... . And GREAT customer service.

And Believe it or NOT I don't sell them! :D

But you can get one here www.performancediesel.net

I have installed the Banks TLC Stinger Kit on my 98. 5 quad along with the DTT TC & VB. The system does everything I expected and for a reasonable $ considering the banks is a complete turn key package and stays within the Cummins Max spec limits,

Package included the 4" s. s exhaust, s. s 5" tip, waste gate actuator, gauges, TLC computer module, K&N Air Filter.

Who told you it stays within max spec limits? And those limts are? The Ottomind taps into the injection pump wire... . does it not? The package you have advertises +81 hp. How much did you pay?

You should make it to one of our get togethers around here. Where or who did your transmission install?

CGoyette,

I noticed in your post that you specifically requested info from members with Banks eqpt. Funny that most of the replies you got are from people who do not have Banks, never had Banks, and are trying to steer you to what they have. You will find a lot of people on here that don't have a clue about Banks by way of personal experience yet they are so eager to flame them every chance they get.

That said, I have been very happy with my Banks Power Pack from day one. Since you are towing, you would especially like the temperature limiting feature. It is nice not having to keep your eye glued to the EGT gauge when in the mountains. Just do some research and don't be influenced by what others think.

Upgrades

I have no experience with any power/trans upgrades as of yet. . but want to know if anyone has used the BD products?

They seem to be the ones who the Power Shop in Enumclaw recommend. Would be interested in hearing about this. .

01, QC, A/T, long bed, 4x4, White with sand bottom, line X liner, 3 guages in pillar mount, Smitty built nerf bars. Motor is stock.

ramboy, we are trying to just educate him on other options. When I first came to this site I was ready to Banks my truck to the max with upgrades. Now I have got my self "more" educated on different options and Im glad I did. I have saved my self money IMO, and gained more power for the buck, so to speak. He is the ultimate decion maker, but he deserves to hear what others think and have as well to make a decision. One thing I do reccomend is that your buy from a company that is known to put customers first "not sales", for me customer service plays a big role from who I buy from.

 KatD

I researched the Banks TLC & asked a ton of questions, before I made the decision on Banks, The cost of the upgrades Banks stuff was less than piece milling everything. Approx. 1,100. The DTT transmission was a one day job for Autotransmatic in Bennington. Ask For Roger. THey did the whole change out for Approx. $350. bones. Did a nice job except for putting lok tite on TC. I had the TC come loose this last weekend. I had to take out bolts and reinstall with lok tite. Hopefully there in for good.

Banks TLC unlocks TC when shifting if you want, keeps torque within the limits of the TC (OEM) and defuels at 1300 degrees.

Let me know where your get togethers are and when, I'd like to attend if it works into my schedule.
