I got my new Banks Intercooler installed today. Everything went fine, much better than the process of buying it. (6 weeks+!!) Took about 4 1/2 hours, including the washing and drying of the AFE filter. Now to soak in the extra economy.

My truck is an '06, with light modifications. Jacobs brake, AFE stage 2 filter, Banks exhaust, and now the Technicooler. I have 20k on the engine, so it's got a ways to go to be broken in. What changes did you notice with the Technicooler?

Its bigger and flows more charge air. Bigger inlet and outlet diameters also.

Comes with piping, new hoses, and new clamps and larger banks high ram.

I still haven't had the truck on a long open road test run, but I have noticed a bit more power when accelerating, especially in the 30 to 50 mph range. I will be pulling a couple of heavy trailer loads of lumber next week. It will be good to see what it does for me then. JH

Why did you invest in a Banks exhaust on your '06. You already had a 4" exhaust? Should have kept what you had and installed a high flow muffler and saved you a bundle.

My initial comment was a little misleading. Actually I first removed the CAT and the factory muffler. I liked the sound, but it really was a little too loud for practical purposes. So, I bought the Banks equipment, which was really only a muffler, tailpipe and 5" tip. Sounds much better than factory, but not as loud as straight.

My 2004.5

When I ordered my 2004. 5 in Dec. 2003, a Banks salesman told me the exhaust on my new truck would be 3. 5" to muffler then 4" to tip. I ordered the complete kit and removed the cat also. When my truck arrived it had 4" all the way. Well I figured out the salesman was not exactly truthful. After owning this truck till now and now having a 2006 CTD, I personal experience tells me it is a big mistake to remove your cat due to loosing your warranty completely. I'm not an alarmest and I like the idea to be able to modify your truck the way you want to but it is coming down the road like in 6 months with all the new EPA gizmose we are likely to start seeing the EPA clamping down pretty tough with modifications. The only thing I have planned for my 2006 is a high flow muffler. Dollar for dollar and dollar per HP increase/EGT decreases... I think that ANY exhaust/intercooler changes is a waste of good money. (We are talking about newer trucks).

Maybe I'm not getting it here, but if the "EZ" you mentioned you have in your truck is the Edge product, doesn't that already cause you the risk of voiding your warranty?

I realize everyone's experience with warranty issues varies largely, depending on the dealer and their willilngness to be flexible, but I am hearing that any add-on to the truck's system can be detected. Coincidentally, I was told that removal of the CAT was NOT a warranty-voiding modification. But it makes more sense that it is. I am trying to do all I can to provide better breathing and exhaust flow for starters. Then if I see the necessity I will consider other modifications. This is an interesting realm, this diesel world.

Okay. I looked at your truck site and see what the "EZ" is that you are referring to. My mistake.

I have thought about these issues long and hard. When I had my 2004. 5 with no CAT, I had absolutely NO choice when travelling or at home if my truck broke down. With the EZ I can pull one set of wires and remove the little box and there is NO trace of a conversion. I really liked my truck with NO CAT and a high flow exhaust system & the TST. When I had rear end trouble I was told real quick that I was in trouble. It will not happen again.

So it is the Edge EZ. Looking at your pictures, I thought you might be referring to the hitch system. Is it really non-traceable by factory inspectors? I have heard so many conflicting stories that I don't know what to think anymore. I would like to install one if it is not traceable. Thanks, JH

Wow, this got off topic. Back to the original post, I don't have the banks intercooler but I love the BD one I installed. It is a lot bigger than the banks one and man does it flow some air. An aftermarket intercooler is a must when getting into the high hp ranges.

Post a pic of the bd intercooler on your truck.
