Interesting observation -

Let's see - the faster you go, the better the fuel mileage. I'm just a pore ole country boy from West Texas, but that's not how I recall it worked in mechanical engineering classes!

wow

All that I can say is wow. Took me a minute to think if I was actually going to respomd to this thread, but boy I wish I could be at the pump across from him when he fills up and tells me something like that. I think I would fall over laughing. I would pay him $5 to check milage by hand for 5 fill ups and then see who is laughing still.

Merrick, what are you doing snooping around the banks site? And you think I'm up to something?:D :p

I'll bet Jerry of Schaumberg, Ill. is really "Frank" or "Joe" of Banks, Inc. advertising dept. I have a Banks and actually lost about . 5 mpg.

I think someone was smoking some crack before they wrote that testimonial. If that's the case maybe I should start driving at 90mph with my mods I should get pretty close to that 30mpg:D

mpg

sheyooooot... ..... everbodee nos th't wen reziztans goes down with speed increase. if he can get her up to about 120 mph, he'll have to put a tank in the back to accept all the fuel he is making. if he doesn't the oem will either explode, or run over. the only thing what would make that story better, is if it were a maxi... ... . :D

I'm wondering how the kit makes it shift smoother? Oh thats right the auto trannie is slipping (too much power) .

sounds like he's checking instaneous mileage on a downhill coast:)

I can't believe that Banks even let that one get posted on their site.

anthrax inhaled

One time at Band camp ! They must of caught a wiff of that anthrax. I can not believe some one would put that on there web site. THe guy who wrote that is crazy or his mileage computer is broke.

Big Enough Hill?

Rusty,

I've seen 30mpg instantaneous @70mph on my trip computer coming down out of the Sierras. Obviiously, you don't have big enough hills in Texas:D Nope, the 'Hill Country' around Austin doesn't cut it:D

Fuel Mileage

Had a buddy (former) that bought a VW bug in about '57, and we got tired of his bragging about mileage. After about a week of this we kept him busy in the shop, and every day for a month someone went out and added a gallon of gas to the tank, even got his key and made a dupe to get the hood open.

The bragging went on, it just kept getting better and better.

After a month we started removing a gallon a day, nothing said - no bragging.

The last stunt was to remove 2 gallons and throw the reserve handle, and he ran out of gas coming in the yard the next day. Some of you will remember the early VW didn't have a fuel gage.

Hey! This might be a neat trick for someone to do to a PS or DM owning buddy

The devious mind is working, look out!

I *know* that part of IL has no hills, and few slopes.

However, the lauded mileage *could* happen. Semis out there can move right along sonetimes. If he's drafting one at 85, he might not be using that much fuel.

RIght. And here I've been thinking it was Texans who told tall tales of this magnitude. :D :D

Hey Denny!

I heard a similar story about one of the early VW owners. Don't know if it is true or not but here it is.

Seems a fellow went out and bought one of the very early vw's to come over to the states. His neighbors got so tired of his bragging about fuel mileage that they decided to play a little trick on him. Every night one of the neighbors would put some gas into the car. These guys knew how far he drove each day and calculated how much to add to more than double his mileage. After a few weeks of this they just stopped.

Well, within a few days this guy was at the dealership complaining that his mileage had really taken a dive. He supposedly went on to demand that they fix whatever was wrong with the car to cause this sudden drop. I don't know how the story ends as what I have told is all I heard. I guess that he could really have made a fool of himself.

Thinking back about the gas cap location makes me think that the guy's wife was probably in on the joke.

I'll bet the guy isn't BSing about his readings on the mpg computer, the computer probably doesn't work right at high speed. I gained about 3 mpg after installing Banks on my 12 valves, I don't have a computer though, just a pencil. Best mpgs on a 500 mile tank of fuel has been 27. 8, flat land with a tailwind.
