Does Bar's Leaks (the syrupy liquid with pellets) leave a tan colored gummy, sticky residue in the radiator neck? And if that's the stuff, does anyone know if there's a cooling system flush additive that'll remove it?

I have a bad feeling that it's a bad head gasket, and not the Bar's Leaks. On the other hand, the gooey stuff around the radiator cap doesn't act like oil mayonnaise and there's no oil sheen.

The only place I am seeing it is at the neck of the radiator. There's no sticky goo in the hoses, and the thermostat was squeaky clean.

If it matters, I'm running the Orange Prestone stuff. I have a case of Compleat, but don't want to waste it in a gooey system.

If you did not sufficiently flush your system when changing from the factory installed green ethylene glycol (with silicate corrosion inhibitors) you can sometimes get a 'gell' after switching to the orange / pink DexCool type ethylene glycol with non-silicate corrosion inhibitors.

Suggest that you get some Prestone flush, comes in a two part container. Top part is a powder acid and the bottom part is a powdered neutralizer. Follow the instructions and then refill with the DexCool type coolant.

Why would you think that you have a head gasket leaking?

Here is a bunch of information on coolants

Q: What happens if the truck I order is factory filled with ROTELLA ELC, but I do not want to use an extended life coolant?

A: Factory filling with ROTELLA ELC does not force you to continue to use the product. You don't even have to drain it. Just use conventional coolants for top-up and SCAs as recommended by the manufacturer.
