I purchased an 02 2500 QC 4x4 in May. What is the ideal oil/filter change and fuel filter change intervals? My dealer says 3750 and 7500, my manual says 7500 and 15000 a buddy says 5000 and 10000. I'm looking for some input. I have 10000 miles on, commute 70 miles round trip 10x a month, live in the Seattle area( traffic sucks). I also want info about exhaust brakes. What brand? Jacobs, Pac, Banks. Why?

This can be somewhat of a can of worms... are you running dino or synthetic oil. . what filter are you running a second filter... you could just take regular oil samples for testing and wait for the results to tell you to change the oil... ... .....

IMO, if your running the Fleetguard Filter and dino, blended or synthetic oil I would give you 7500-10000 miles, if your putting any sort of towing or heavy loads I do it 3500-5000. You can find out a lot of information by searching for "extended drain intervals" and the like...

Exhaust Brake... are you going to become hopelessly addicted to your truck and the fine art of bombing?... . For mild applications I think the Jake, BD, Pacbrake are all fine. I have a Jake many members swear by BD and Pacbrake..... If your going to start bombing the truck get the gauges and a 4" exhaust from the turbo back and put a BD 4" exhaust brake in at the same time...

my 2 cents

If you're pulling large loads I would change oil every 5000 and fuel filter every 10,000. If you're not pulling and just a run around truck you could extend the miles. Exhaust brake --- the Jacobs exhaust brake was engineered with the help of Cummins and I'm not sure but I think it is the only one out there that won't effect your warranty. I bought mine at Cummins. Works great--holding truck and 5th wheel back down steep grades by itself with no braking in 6th gear!

You don't have a signature yet, so we can't tell much about your truck. You can only install an exhaust brake on a stock if you have a manual transmission. An auto requires mods to the transmission.

If you decide on a Jacobs (Cummins, Dodge OEM, they are all the same), you might want to get a price from the folks at the link below.

That the guess work out of how long you can run your oil. Drive 5,000 mile and take an oil sample and send it to be tested. If it comes back saying that you can run it longer, go 7,500 mile and take another sample.

Exhaust brake:I can't tell you which one to get, but once you have it, you will wonder how you got along without it.
