Help, i have a 2007 3500 deisel ,battery goes flat after 2 days ,found that there was a 3 amp drain on the battery ,this goes down and up as if something is turning on then turning off stays off for about 30 seconds then turns on again ,remove fuse 11 iod fuse and the drain drops to . 35 amps constant. any tips to find the problem apart from pulling the plugs on each componet to see what is taking the power?

Regards

Conn

We do have a circuit in our computer that is designed to shut down an power drain after a 3 or 5 min time lapse from the key being turned off... that alone should shut down the power... 3 amps is enough in 36 hours... 3 amps x 36 hours is 108 amp hours, about the rating of one battery... .

Look at the wiring diagram to see what circuit that fuse powers... . or pull the fuse and see what fails to work with the fuse pulled and see if there's something that you or someone else might have done to allow draw. .

Years ago when I was working on Lincolns at a dealer... we had a lady who's car had a dead battery every other day... . one afternoon I was sent to her house to look at the car... . when she got home she picked up the litter bag off the floor and hung it on the lighter... thus the slight drain... when she got into the car and started it... she'd put the litter bag on the floor so she could use the lighter... when the litter bag was on the floor, every time she brought it into the dealer I never found the problem... .

Thanks for the reply

the fuse powers the radio, sentry key module, the cluster, data link conector, electronic overhead module, and the hands free

thanks

Something is waking up the cluster. Since you know what modules and loads are on the circuit disconnect them all but the cluster and see what happens. The cycling up and down is the cluster waking up, and then going to sleep. There was another thread a few days ago with a similar condition. Also if you have . 35 amps with the IOD fuse out it is still too much. A normal draw after several minutes should be less than 60ma or . 06 amps. Your problem may be somewhere else and that draw is the one waking up the cluster.

HI,

took out the cluster and the draw was still there ,even put in a new cluster and still no luck ,any other ideas

Something is waking the cluster up as I stated before. The only sure way to prove it out is to remove the wires in the cluster connectors one at a time until the draw goes away. I'm assuming it is there all the time. It is most likely a lighting circuit, or a bad ground on another circuit that is trying to ground through the cluster.

Battery woes

I am probably the guy with the leakdown issues I didnt have a amp meter but a test light and I could never get the drain to quit. I just gave it up. I did install 2 new batteries. One of whick was swelled like a ball. I also found the fluid level in the battery low without any weepage sign on top. Anyhow I have just run it since and no problem. I also took it to 2 different dealers whom said the charging circuit and starting circuit were functioning normally.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply,if it is the cluster should the draw go away if the cluster is fully unplugged? from all three plugs at the back?
