Competition Dhra Rules??

Scott I would like to know if it feels better once it's lit with the changes. Meaning have you done any road tests other than the one were you smoked Brad out :)

I'm sure you're all aware that in some venues it's required that the exhaust exit behind the cab. Just something to think about before everyone drills holes in their hood!

Good point, Big MAK. Though most of the upper classes, where Scott pulls, allow it; any class having to do with "street" usually does not. Check your rules. Most reserve hood stacks for the "big boys. "

The Black stack looks down right mean, Scott!

On that note... pros and cons of hood stacks: While doing wonders for back pressure after the turbine, I'm told that for some reason they actually increase EGT a bit. I cant seem to theorize why. I'll never have the desire to sacrifice a hood and test this rumor. Can any one speak to this?

All my adapters have mimiced the exhaust manifold, you cutting corners, Jim? :-laf

I guess so. When I put that turbo on it was the only thing I had for a spacer. I would say I need one of those spacers but the plan is to do the wastegate deal soon then see if I need on in the hot pipe too.

the Piers kit is open in the middle of the spacer also. I was always told he had a reason for it and did it on purpose.

Hmmm, wonder why that is??? I actually thought everyone would have went with a spacer with the same profile as the turbo/manifolds... I guess I was wrong. I am planning on making it a smooth transition thru the spacer!

As far as the hood stack goes, my class also alows me to run the stack(exact same rules as Super Street in DHRA but up here its called Pro-Mod... not sure what they are going to call it in a year or two when guys get the itch to move up to BBD's, Van's and Kents class!!)

I am very pleased that this post came up when it did as I will be starting mine in less than two weeks if all goes good!

It's done that way so when the wastegate opens up it will vent all 6 cylinders. If you remember they use to drill the vlutes(sp) under the wastegate flapper but it cracked allot, at least mine did but it never came apart to my knowledge. Fletcher has it as a backup for last year. The other 40 is in the shop, still good but allot of cracks on the housing.

That's what I thought. They used to drill through from one side to the other so that the pressures would stay equal.

BBD- An old post but I thought I would ask you a few more questions about your setup or others can feel free to asnwer too. What kind of material is your hotpipe made of or what are other twin setups using for it? by the looks of yours its made out of heavy wall mild or is just standard exaust tubing? I have been looking for some for my setup and can't find anything other than standard exaust tubing in bends as tight as I need them.

Also, I am curious about what you ever did for your intake system (airfilter and tubing)? it is looking like I will have about the same amount of space to play with as you do.

Thanks in advance... Ryan

Thanks for the pics! looks great with the mesh!!!! At this time mine is still a driver (no where close to a Daily driver though!) I have about 8" infront of the turbo though so I am sure I can either find a short filter thats going to work or a tight 90 bend and aim it down toward the balancer.

As far as your hot pipes go though, can you give me an idea of what they are made out of? guage or thickness wise? even with the bracket to the AC mount I doubt that standard exaust tubing would be enough for it and I am having a hard time sourcing 4" tubing in bends greater than 16guage.

Thanks for all the pics! Ryan

They are built out of schedule 40 material. You can find them at any shop that works with steam or fluid piping. In my area its called the Boiler Works. Hope this helps. I can say that job was a blast and went very smooth. Thank God for that!! :)

Thanks for the tip. I will have to hit the yellow pages and see if I can find a shop specializing in that!

As far as the air filter goes... I was just looking in the truck shop here at work and I found a plastic piece in a tight 90 degree bend in the right diameter used for ducting from the turbo to the air filters on our N14's so I am just going to get one of them and it capable of having the air filter mount directly to it!

Thanks BBD!!! that is exactly what I need and have ordered one thru work here! Will have to wait till it gets in tomorrow to see if I can move the turbo even closer to the rad support which make the hood stack a little easier to do(right now in its current position the pipe would be going thru one of the crossmembers on the hood) if I can move it ahead 1. 5" I will be just in sheet metal.

Thanks again... Ryan

Okay guys... I am having huge problems trying to find anyone up here in Ontario, Canada that carry's the Shedual 40 Bends!!! Does anyone have any contacts for it? I have looked all over and can't find anything other than exaust tubing!

Thanks. . Ryan
