Hello all, getting ready to mail order the bd exhaust brake #ad
Can anyone tell me what accessories I should get with the brake? I read some where in a previos post that the brake has a set up for when the accelerator pedal is released, the exhaust brake is engaged. I am kinda confused on this and what I really want is a simple, easy, user friendly set up #ad
As always Thanks

Fightnirish, I would recommend that you get the shifter mount swicth which is an extra item. That way your brake is controlled by a red button right on the shifter. Its easy to operate while driving without looking and also while shifting. The BD brake comes with a throttle switch EI the throttle is off the brake can be applied if you leave the brake switch on and momentarily step on the throttle the brake goes off till the throttle is depressed again so you don't have to switch it on and off every time you use the throttle. It works great you will really enjoy it with the 5sp. Dave

I second getting the shifter switch! Use the dash switch they provide to operate some aux lights or something. You'll love using your shifter mounted switch: I use mine all the time. #ad

I agree that the shifter mounted shift is a must, but the switch I have vibrates/rattles and is quite annoying. Has anyone come up with another switch, or a solution for the one BD provides?

I was told the a little silicon grease will silence the shifter switch. Keep forgetting to dab some on. I want to add a clutch switch so I don't have to turn off the shifter switch at a stop light.

I also have a pressure guage on to monitor the braking pressure. Nice addition but not necessary. Although, it is good to check the pressure buildup periodically. Someone had posted not to long ago about setting up their boost guage to monitor brake pressure. Sounds like a good idea but I just had to clean my pressure guage line due to soot buildup. Time to back off on the star wheel?

Im with ya on the clutch switch. That would make it dang near perfect.

Been trying to find a good switch. . Considered using the existing one to fire off two relays. One for the original purpose, the other for the brake. Would have to adjust the switch actuation position, and there would be alot of clicking going on...

Sure could use some suggestions. I know I read a post a while back where someone has one working.

Maybe even using a dual-throw type (one relay - 2 seperate sets of contacts)MR2 type if I remember correctly.

I am considering wiring my exh brake to the stop lights on my truck. I have people running right up behind me because they have no warning that I am slowing down.

The exhaust brake/brake light connection has been discussed often. I believe it is illegal. Note that no "big truck" is set up that way.

For you guys talking about the clutch switch - keep in mind that you don't want to sit at a stop with the clutch released. It's very hard on the pilot bearing in the clutch. You're better off putting the truck in neutral and releasing the clutch - Joe Donnelly talks about that in issue #30 where he talks about clutches and transmission's.

Thanks for that thought Steve. Still, it would be helpful for those momentary stops rather than hitting the shifter switch yet one more time. The other time is while shifting since BD for one does not recommend using it while shifting.

Good point Steve, but I'd also still like it for shifting. I know you can learn to shift w/ slight throttle, but its kind of a pain.
