I have a BD based transmission in my 94 that has never held the pulling torque of my 12v when I had all the performance parts on it. The transmission tech that took apart my BD transmission, (after BD dropped the ball but that's another story), showed me many reasons this one would not hold and also told me he does not believe there is one that will hold this kind of torque in a heavy pulling application for a long period of time. They may last in a truck that doesn't pull hard or if you manually shift down on hills and such but none that you can just put in drive and set the cruise.

The truck was putting out 270 to 280 RWHP and I pull 17500 lbs GCW.

I am wondering if anyone does build one that will hold, for a price that is within reach?

Did it ever hold? How long did it last?

I have a Dunrite shift kit and converter on a fresh rebuild and make 419hp and tow with about 380 usable WHP. I have about 3000mi so far and have towed as much as 26k with no problems.

If you are going to buy a built transmission DTT sounds like the way to go. If you have a local Dodge guy who knows the Dunrite stuff than it is also a very good way to go.

Have you tried playing with the TV cable? On my truck with the way the pump dlivers power. I need full line pressure on the transmission buy 1/2 throttle So I have put a spring in the middle of the cable and I bottom out the TV buy 1/2 throttle but the spring comp and lets me get full throttle.

From your mod list you are not even making power yet.

I pull my trailer with my ATS and you can see in my signiture that I have a moderate HP truck. I drive it like I stole it and have broken some parts, imput shaft, flexplate, etc but no problems towing.

The trans has been replaced or rebuilt (so I was told) 5 times in 3 months last winter. Once with the complete truck in BD's own shop in BC and not one of them has held at all. Keeps slipping the forward clutches and convertor.

The TV cable has been adjusted from tight to loose and no difference.

TPS has been replaced twice.

Bottom line: BD can't build it to pull a trailer. IMHO!!!!! ;)

Just trying to find someone who can and I appreciate all the input.

#1 make sure that your cooling system is not plugged up. NO ONE will build a trans that can hold, if you can't circulate fluid.

5 trans in 3 months... there is a problem... have you put another core in the truck, using none of the old parts from the unit with the problem?

You have to find the problem, 300hp is nothing! An aftermarket torque conveter, and an upgraded valve body in a stock trans will have no problems holding that.

I have that much going thru a stock 47re and after 100k miles it's acting like it needs some DTT attention and I run the exhaust brake all the time. You've got to have some hard part issues

Bd told me the complete trans was replaced in Abbottsford but the tech was replacing the valve body with 2 different ones and could not get it to work.

When Rick's Racing Transmissions in Calgary took it apart (the last time it was out) we could not believe what we found. BD has done things in there that never should have been done for any application let alone towing. ie: the accumulator was shimmed so it could not move. We used to do this years ago in race automatics but found out it was not beneficial unless you want to break shafts and other parts.

If I would have known last Christmas that DTT was virtually next door... ... ... well you know the rest. :)

I would try to take Stefan up on his offer...

I have 80000 miles on my DTT, just stopped towing 12k gooseneck with it about 6 months ago when i picked up the 01. 5. It's been awesome in every way and i put some decent power to the ground.

I'm putting down about 350/800 when I tow with my comp at 4x4 and my BD transmission has never complained, ever. Last time I went across a scale I was 18K on the way home, so I was 20k on the way up the mountains. Don't know the grade but they are all seasonal passes they close in the winter going to Naches WA.

Check out East Coast Diesel in Lebanon Pa. They are dodge cummins specialists when it comes to the trannies. They make big name trannies look stock
