Hope I am the only trusting Idiot. I advertised my 3500 for sale on this site and got a call from a fellow in southern California. We made a tentive agreement over the phone and he flew up here. My wife and I picked him up at the airport, drove him to our house, fed him, let him sleep here and sold him the truck. He brought along some fuel injectors and I installed them for him and sold him my EZ box. He was supposed to trade a exhaust brake or send me $400 for my labor and the box. I have not seen the money 6 months later, he will not return any calls or accept any when I call his cell#. I am about to turn the whole thing over to a collection agency. I know it is not big money, but right is right. Just be aware that all of the TDR members are not ethical or honerable. If there are any intimidating TDR members in the San Deago area that would like to make a couple of hundred $ let me know. :( :(

Thats the pits... perhalps on the drive home he had trouble and felt he overpaid for the truck and is the reason, but if thats the case he should speak up. Have you tried to PM him?

I'll volunteer my intimidation services. I need an excuse to get down there anyways. I seem to get burned a lot and would be happy to help out someone in the same boat.

I offer my son for your services of some influence. If he can do this to me, I pitty the fool who took advantage of you and your wife.

Hey , the thread should be more like Don't buy from people from southern california!

It seems that everyone execpt 1 out of a 1000 people is out to screw you around here in Calif... .

Name and address? There is nothing worse than trusting some one and getting burn for it. $400 is $400 and even if it was less, is the principle.

Man what a bummer

Look it definatly sucks to get burned. Especially if it is from another member. But whatever comes out here do NOT post addresses on the forum. The internet world sure does not weed out everybody and man it's a shame. How did he pay for everything else? There are agencies specificly for getting whats owed to you back for a small precentage of course  you just need some background financial information (I e check , route , cc , etc)

What about posting his name here so at least other TDR members don't get suckered by this guy in the future?

Sorta like posting on billboards the names of guys pinched for soliciting prostitutes, like some cities have done.

I know money is money, but people that do bad things always seemed to get humbled in some way, if you do good things, good things come back on you!

Always sucks to get burned by someone. Venting is very healthy. Vent first, castrate later. Keeps the "theft gene" from being passed on to future generations.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and simpathy. Seems everytime I get burned it makes me a little bit less likley to trust people. That is the part that is the worst. If the guy would just contact me and explain why he wont pay or offer a few $ a month just to show good faith I would feel much better. Long distance deals will have to be $$ up front from now on!!

Wow, that is a bummer. Sometimes it might help to check how new of a member they are and how many posts they have made. I would think that there's got to be a couple of bad apples with over 25,000 members. I have always had nothing but the greatest experiences when dealing with members.

Have PM Emailed Sent a bill and called 4-5 times. As of late he will not pick up the cell when I call. I think I have been VERY patient. However there has been no explination as of why he will not pay.

I got taken advantage of once by a TDR member but he was from the mid-west. It was only for ten bucks but it's the principle of things. I had taken video of the action at Muncie including in front of Lee's Inn and had him on video pulling his truck and he said he wanted a copy so I said sure hows ten bucks sound to cover the cost of the tape and shipping? Well being a trust worthy soul I sent it right out and then never received any money from him and he hasn't answered my PM's either. On the other hand I recently did a pay it forward of a factory air box, CFowler said he wanted it so I checked on shipping and it was going to be $7, so I told him the cost and actually sent the air box right out but didn't tell him. A few days later a check arrived for $20 and a thank you note, that's how it's suppose to work. If I had something else he wanted, I'd probably send it to him for free just because he's an upstanding guy. Anyways there's my good and bad story.

I'll send you the money Tim!! Chill! Wait a sec, I didn't get a tape from you?

I sold a TDR member 4 tires for $50,and threw a spare in for nothing, since he was running on cords,(I'm not kidding) and it was the dead of winter. He was a landscaper, so I said pay me in the spring.

I also did his KDP for him.

I"M STILL WAITING.

I understand as a moderator, you feel that we shouldnt have the addy posted for legal reasons. However, i feel that he should have to deal with his name and place should be posted for the forum to see. It is kind of like public hanging, what we used to have in the good ole' days!

you would think that would work but that doesn't have anything to do with it.

trust me I KNOW from experience. the ole "must have got lost in the mail trick  get double product for single price ;)

it's quite possible for something to get lost in shipment but when you here they pulled it on another TDR brother it becomes very suspicious

It still falls under theese guidelines. B.T.W ERIC .. Take a close look @ # 2.4 LOL!

2. Conduct. The TDR encourages lively and informative discussion among Discussion Forum participants. But keep it clean and productive. Do not use or allow others to use your subscription to:

2. 1 Repeatedly post any material that the moderators feel is antagonistic to others or instigates non-productive conflict between users as well as vendors.

2. 2. Post any material or comment that is considered to be "baiting" others into an unproductive conflict online. According to Webster's, baiting is: 1. ) to place a lure or trap; 2. ) to entice, especially by trickery or strategy; 3. ) to attack or torment, especially with persistent insults, criticism, or ridicule. Baiting is considered to be any post that intentionally badgers, heckles, or leads another user(s) into an antagonistic discussion.

2. 3. Post any form of solicitation on any Discussion Forum

2. 4. Post or transmit any material that is mean-spirited, abusive, obscene, hateful, fraudulent, threatening, vulgar harassing, or defamatory (the use of symbols or characters to mask profanity and expletives is prohibited and undermines the spirit of these guidelines);

2. 8. Knowingly post (or threaten to post) or transmit (or threaten to transmit) any file that contains computer viruses, corrupt files, or any other contaminating or destructive features that may damage computer equipment.

Look All I am saying is that we as FAITHFUL members need to heed some sort of uniformality. If it's killin' ya then take it offline and do so in a P. M. Those who do not (In this very case) unfortunatly rub the grain the wrong way in the masses. I feel your pain about trust. It is one of the most valuable things on the planet. Without it you have nothing to stand on. And to start to trust AGAIN is even worse as you ALLWAYS will be weary.

There are steps I take now to prevent getting burned. Ca$h , Cert check up front ... . . let's face it if you wanted the item that bad in the first place then moneys should not be an issue. Special arrangements need to be made before hand involving documentation (A document when signed by both parties is a binding contract and is submissable evidence in court) and there are on line places to do so when a long distance purchase is made.
