Has anyone ever tried to make a bed in the back of their Quad Cab? I have been thinking of folding up the back seat and moving the others all the way foward but that leaves the problem of the center section not moving forward on my truck... are there any con version kits avalible?

What about building a bed up to the center part fromt he back of the back seat rest? leave the seat folded down take some 2x4's make a frame with two legs to go to the floor behind the front seat put some ply wood ontop the frame and slap a matress on that bad boy and its all zzzzzzzzzz. Just an idea. Better yet put the legs on hinges to make it easier to take out.

I made a bed for mine after removing the rear seat completely. I built a frame out of 1" angle iron and support it in the rear on a couple of 4 X 4s that are bracketed to the floor. I suspended the front with plastic covered 1/8"cable attached to brackets that are mounted to the door pillers behind the seats. ( I don't have rear doors). It tips up to have access to the stuff I have stored under it. 1/2 " plywood goes on the frame and the mattress was made to size using 3 layers of egg crate foam rubber inserted in a fitted mattress cover. It works for me.

Believe me, this was an act of necessity, not sex. We are not allowed to sleep in the trailers we pull and the profit margin does not allow many motel stays. And by the way, it is spelled share.

Chris... . You would need about another 2 feet of cab width... you are way taller than I am, and I have a heck of a time trying to sleep in my cab. . Just a thought.

nice being 5'8" tall sometimes. I've slept MANY nights in the back seat of my truck. 97 ext cab 2500. my wife sleeps in the front (shes shorter 5'). In AK and the Alcan not alot of places available when you want em. some day i'll get a camper.

OTRPU has a unit similar to the ones TTMT posted. I saw it while at ATS in Denver last year. I saw it when it was up on the lift and the hack job on the frame looked really neat and professional. He says he likes it.

I had to make a bed in the back of my o1 QC for my wife traveling back and forth from NE Georgia to Florida. She has MS and cannot sit up for long periods of time. Here is what I did. Folded the rear seat up. Took a large peace of cardboard and cut a template that would fit in the area and sit on top of the stock utility bin with the driver seat in my normal position. I then took 2 inch PVC and cut them so that the two on the outside and the one in the middle would cause the bed to have a slight tilt toward the back of the cab. For stability i also put a reducer 3 to 2 inch on the bottom of each piece of 2inch PVC. I then cut out of 1/2 inch plywood the shape of the template. I then fasten two 6 inch long 1x1 wood strips to the bottom of the bed so they wood stratle the top edge of the utility bin and keep the bed from sliding front to rear. Where the 2 inch PVC legs met the bottom of the bed I fasten 2inch circular cut outs so the legs would not slide around. Bought a 3" piece of foam wrap a sheet around it blanket and pillow and off to sleep she goes. It is easly removable when we don't need it and i store it in the garage. Doesn't require any alteration of the interior of your truck. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Well try sleeping in a regular cab like I do, on the front seat, the ONLY seat. And I am 6'1"!

Anyway, I was thinking of getting a sleeper cab and taking out the rear window, with a boot between. The sleeper would have to be full depth to the bottom of the bed, with a rear door so I could store stuff underneath the bed-rail-height mattress I plan on putting in it.

Let me caution you, make dang sure you want to do this, (stretch the frame), if you don't like living in your truck and change your mind you ain't got much of a market to sell to. Truck won't be much good for anything else really. I did run into ONE guy driving a stretched Ram with the same sleeper on it I have. He pulled into a rest area and we chatted for an hour or so. He just liked it, got it off a dealer that had it made up for some kind of promotion. Nice enough guy, but I think maybe one brick short of a load, driving a 25 foot whale around the city and not even sleeping in it. In fact didn't use it for any kind of work, just drives around in it. About the only market for one of these is somebody hauling OTR, many I've talked with want one. But most don't have the resources to purchase. Mine sat for sale on the Interstate for more than a year before I got it. Guy said he had several lookers, none could swing the loan. Far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't be doing this work if I hadn't found the rig. Maybe would have thrown an M&M in the bed version in my PSD. Without the sleeper I'd be doing something else. . . too dam old to be sleeping in a pickup truck seat.

Mike Jonckers made a DOT-legal sleeper in the back of his '97 Club Cab. He cut out the inner structure of the cab quarters & covered the insets with carpet- looks factory.

I don't know if I mentioned this but you could do it with any cab style. For instance, one guy up in Conifer has a 4x2 regular cab dually with a sleeper cab just mounted in the bed. What the previous owner did, the current owner said, (and as I saw) was mount the sleeper, and cut out the entire back of the cab and tie it all in to make it one open space, and like Bill Lins said, this one also looks factory. He has a couch back there that folds into a bed. Pretty nice, but like OTRPU said, it can't be changed back easily, but probably could be changed easier than a frame stretch.

Thats why if I bought a sleeper cab, the only thing I would do is remove the window and put a weather boot between the sleeper and truck cab. That way if I get tired of the sleeper, or need the whole truck bed length, I can take it out. Plus, all I need a sleeper cab for is more storage for short trips. Then I can haul stuff in there, with access to it, plus still haul something in the bed (all 5. 5 feet of it with the cab in it).
