Math Problem..with photos..

Well the wife is telling me its time for a new bed mattress. I'm interested in a memory foam or latex. What do you recommend? (Keep it clean please :-laf )

My parents had a couple of the foam type matresses that sagged in the middle. All were replaced or returned under warranty and they seem to be happy with the one they have now. Sorry, but not sure what brand they have now.

We have a Serta foam matress that is very firm with no sagging that we are very happy with.

We have a latex one, actually two. We got one firm and one regular so we have a choice. So far, it's been far superior than the old innerspring one we had. It was a Springair. Miserable! I'd like to try one of those Select Comfort ones. I know a few people who have them and like them a lot. We put a memory foam topper from Costco on our travel trailer mattress. Infinitely better.

We just got rid of our Select Comfort. That thing sagged terribly with the foam overlay to the air chambers.

We purchased an England mattress about six months ago and really like it so far.

We have a Tempupedic and love it. We have had it for about a year now with no complaints.

JCasper,

Are you having any "body indentation" problems? Tempupedic says 2" is normal? Another TDR member had this problem and was disssatisfied w/ this problem.

the best thing i did for my regular spring mattress was to cut a piece of plywood to go between the mattress and box spring, probably killed 50-75% of my aches and pains

We have owned a Tempurpedic for about 4 years no,and we love it. There is a slight indentation on my side(I am on the large side of the scale),but it isn't bad. I love the bed,and it is one of the best purchases we have ever made.

Our Tempurpedic is the 10" thick model, and it is super comfy.

we just got a 14" tempurpedic "Ultra plush" model and love it. Reading through the warranty info it came with it, It says if it has a 3/4" visible sag in the foam it is covered under replacement warranty but only if it was being used with their own box spring. Was spendy $2800 but I have back problems and spring mattresses were making it worse. We tried a serta memory foam bed for a month before getting this one and I think our hard wood floors have more give to them than that mattress had it was only an 8" one though.

Costco has a memory foam mattress topper for around $150. This might be a good inexpensive way to see if the memory foam was workable for you. The Temperpedic? ones are sooooo expensive

My folks have a Select Comfort that they seem to like. I slept on it a couple of times and didn't think it was worth the money. However, I am so fortunate not to have back problems... . yet:)

I got one of the Costco memory foam sample pads. It is about 3ft. square and I thought it would be great for the Border Collies. I managed to talk them out of one and am still waiting to score another. Since I only have the one, I've been using it for a pillow and really like it. In fact I'm thinking about cutting it in half and making two pillows and letting the BCs can rough it :-laf

At this time NO.

My in laws have had one for about 4 years and love theirs also. That was a big reason we decided to spend the money and get one. After their recommendation three of their neighbors and my wife and I bought one.

One of the mattresses my parents had problems with was a store brand. They have never had a Tempurpedic.

The wife and I are happy with ours and it sags maybe an inch which we were told would be normal. It hasn't sagged any more than that in the year and a half we've had it.

We had 3 previous conventional mattresses that were Thomasville store brand mattresses. They were terrible. Even the salesman had one and was returning it.

I suggest you take a look at Stearns & Foster before you decide on a memory foam. They are not inexpensive ($3000 King size), but they are worth it, hands down.

We recently went through this, finally ended up with an Englander, real comfortable, and the best price of everything we looked at.

Does your back feel any better now than before? Thats a lot of coin to throw at a mattress, just wondering if you noticed any difference or if you now thought it was worth it.

My . 02.

I had middle back problems for almost two years. I would visit the bone cracker every week. #@$%!

We bought the selectcomfort mattress(cal-king) in 1993. After 5 weeks I stopped going to the chiropractor for good.

I still have the same bed and have never had back problems again.

I would never buy anything else at this point... This is just my personal experience.

I have a spurred disc in my lower back L5. It has cronic pain. But I used to wake up stiff and sore. I wake up feeling good now,No more stiffness or soreness. My wife loves it too. It is finally getting broke in and is better everyday. Another plus is that you can't feel the one next to you tossing and turning like on a spring mattress and no squeeks either.
