How much does a regular long bed pick up box weigh? (SRW)

I like my bumper pull travel trailer, don't want a toy hauler, thinking about a custom bed, with a low center deck, and a built in motorcycle loader. Rampage shows a motorized loader, with the tailgate down, but when you call, they don't recommend loading a heavy bike with the gate down, rather, it should be removed.

I have custom built flat beds for all my trucks... in each case they weigh more than the stock bed that we removed. . 4-6 guys can lift a pickup bed off the truck and back it off onto a bench or saw horses... Anyone need tail lights, or dually fenders for 01, 04, 05 trucks I've got them sitting here... .

On each of our trucks we've had problems getting the actual bed to be lower than the stock bed... all ours have wood decks so that the skids we load won't slide around as easily... and I'd guess that our beds are 1" taller than the factory... but its really nice when working around a 5er or gooseneck...

we've installed a tool box on the drivers side and a spare fuel tank of about 40 gal on the passenger side so that at card locks we can fill both tanks at once...

Good info, exactly what I was looking for. I live a few miles away from the Fab Shop, so I may swing by there, and see if they have done anything like what I want. Nothing on the web site, but maybe in person.....

4-6 guys? :-laf My dad and I carried my dually box by ourselves! :D And, I put the aluminum flatbed on by myself! :D

Don't recommend it, but can be done if you are strong (or dumb :-laf ) enough to do it.

As Jelag alluded to, the floor height of most commercial aftermarket flat beds or tow beds is significantly taller, about 6" taller, than the OEM pickup bed. A typical aftermarket flatbed has 4" fore and aft bottom rails that sit on top of the truck's frame then a set of 3" rails side to side that rest on top of the 4" rails and provide support to the bed floor then a 1/8" deck. That means the bed deck is about 7 1/8" thick.

The deck height has to be considered when planning on pulling a fifth wheel trailer. The neck of a gooseneck trailer can be easily adjusted but there is not much adjustment in a fifth wheel kinpin box.
