Bedliners: Drop-in or sprayed-in?

I need a bedliner and am wondering if the Rhino Lining or something similar is worth the price. I had a drop-in bedliner in my last truck, but it didn't allow access to the front tie-downs, and on each rear tie-down was a big gaping access hole that collected everything I hauled (stone, mulch, hay, etc).



What about the do-it-yourself spray-in liners? Seems like something I could probably screw up somehow!

You can buy the liquid, sand the bed, wash it out and apply the stuff for 150 or less. I've done it and it works ok. You can even touch it up your self. Then after it dried I put a bed mat over it and it works great.

I'm with Fox. I like the results of the professionally applied liners better, but you can do it yourself on the cheap and by taking your time and having good attention-to-detail get excellent results. I despise my cheapo plastic drop-in but it's all I can afford for now, what with DTT transmission mods eating my tax refund...

I see adds for Herculiner in field and stream all the time that is a roll on DIYS job F&S tested it they thought it was great stuff. I'm planing on using either that or the new spray can stuff on my flat bed Hope I'm helpin'

I've had Line-X installed in two trucks. Great product. It's a good idea to have the installation done by someone who has been doing them for awhile, regardless of which product you get. Experience is probably more important than the product.

I don't have any experience with the DIY bedliners but I have had drop ins in all of my truck's in the past. When I bought this truck I decided to spend the extra $$$ and get the Rhino liner installed. All I can say is it was worth every penny. JMHO

Get the Rhino

I have a TOFF pro spray in (similar to Rhino). It is guaranteed not to rip. I have slid some rather heavy items in, and have had no problems at all.

Bed Liner

Mine came with a spray-in; however, I'm not sure which brand. After scratching the S**T out of my other truck's bed, I think the spray-in is the way to go. I think aside from the obvious price difference, the biggest thing with the drop-ins is they offer a little cushion against dents and dings if you throw heavy things in your bed. But aside from that, I'd go with a professionally installed spray-in.

I would go with a professional spray in liner because you can get them to spray up to 1/4" thick on the bottom for more protection.



I have the Rhino liner, but I feel it is just too soft and will cut easily. I would look at line x or some other brand. . Like everyone else said, be sure to check the work before you let them spray your truck.

Line-X is great, I had a drop in... no comparision... I just wish I bought the line-x first, the drop is was a real waste of money and it scratched the bed all up...

My Rhino liner is great. Takes all the abuse I give it, even chemicals. Does discolor a bit, but who cares? It is a truck bed.



Mine was $350 installed in PHX, AZ. Took 3 hrs.

There is no doubt that a spray in is nicer than a drop in... but it does depend on the applications you use your bed for! I've always worried about slices on a spray in so go with a harder one if you need it... Also it sounds like you haul some landscape materials... A spray in produces a lot of friction, so sliding stuff in and out becomes more of a choir, and useing a "LoadHandler" is much more difficult---Thats why I went for the drop in though I would prefer the spray in!

Have Line-X AND the drop in DC bedliner. The plastic liner only gets used when hauling stuff like busted concrete, gravel, topsoil etc. The spray in offers much more traction for the dirtbike tires and my shoes..... Can you guess how I know?

I had mine sprayed in. I had them come over the tailgate a couple of inches for a protector on the top edge. I really like it. Kinda pricey but I traded in a 98ctd and the salesman said it just helps the truck sell.

I had the prop in first and hated it. Tore up the paint real good in the year an a half I had it in the truck. The only good thing about it was you could throw things in the bed without denting it. I have Line-X now and will never have a drop in liner again. Very tough and durable. Much better than a drop in liner unless you are going to be throwing bricks and blocks into the bed all of the time.
